I done it before now, put the battery in upside down, and it is designed not to fit. There is a indent next to the terminals that has to line up with a register in the battery housing. Otherwise, when I've done it, the battery will not lock in and you can't close the door
Yet my door does close with the battery in the wrong way!

Odd!

This is totally insane advice to screw into a Lithium battery, see other current threads on the subject.
Don't worry -- I am not doing anything to risk self-immolation!

Can't you just whack it against your hand to get the battery to slide out ?

Otherwise send it back and play stupid - you put the battery in, camera doesn't work, hence must it be broken ?

I don't think that would work.

Even though it is a stupid design flaw, and the manual was misleadingly worded, I still did this myself.

I do wish Ricoh would redesign the battery so this cannot happen. It is a seriously flawed piece of engineering.

You should not try to screw anything into the battery. On contact with air, the contents of the cells themselves may ignite or explode. Never dismantle or damage a battery.

If it can't be easily resolved then a repair job I think.
I am with you on this one -- I think it is too risky.

I have decided, finances or not, to wait until January -- I will be able to afford a repair then (I hope). Let the professionals fix it.

Try attaching something to the battery again, but:

don't use"superglue", try an epoxy like Araldite or JB weld

Ensure whatever you're sticking on is as large (surface area nearly as big as the battery).

and *then* slide your shim down to try and release the contacts.
I have decided to wait until next month as I have figured out a way to make it affordable for me to get a repair job done (I hope).

I take it you have tried sliding the little grey lock back
I've been thinking, (dangerous I know)

Is the battery actually in far enough to allow the lock to come over and close the battery door?

If so I think it's jammed by the solid registration tag to the right of the circled battery terminal.

It's this that should prevent the battery going in the wrong way, by not allowing it to go down far enough for the lock operate.
Just looked at my camera and came to the same conclusion. I'm of the view that it might be down to a self-tapping screw in the end of the battery, a pair of pliers, brute force and luck, (hoping the screw doesn't short out the battery), then a new battery.
I would be concerned about explosions!

That may explain my inability to remove the battery.

ROFL!!
Just silly enough to plonk a battery upside down in my brand spanking new and entirely unused K-5 II!

Just use the stiff plastic parcel tape found on parcels and used by most courier companies ...very stiff and can be doubled over if too thin...was also great for breaking into cars...

Just the pin Barrie circled in his images near the centre line of the battery.

Not wishing to go off topic but...

I was shooting a film in the middle of the Nevada desert and out of nowhere a guy appears looking like an extra in a Beau Geste film who says 'Any of you guys got keys for a Ford?' He had locked himself out and no we didn't but we did have the black parcel tape and the necessary flat nosed pliers. We opened the Ford in 15 seconds.
I feel like the Beau Geste-y looking bloke...

Business cards are thinner than credit cards and quite stiff. Good luck!
I have tried business cards -- no good, I'm afraid.

Thank you!
