Well, I'm not a huge sci fi fan, but any film buff should for a start see movies such as Metropolis, Blade Runner, the Alien series, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris (Tarkovski), The Matrix (and when you are done with these we can come with a handfull or two more). I suggest you get started right now and you can do so with peace in mind: If it gives you any comfort I can assure you that any of these have generated a lot more academic papers than Jean ... and Manon ... (not trying in any way to talk these down ... it's not like I don't want that Truffaut Collection-box myself) Many of these play out philosophical themes and there is no end to how influential a movie such as Metropolis has been to the visual culture. Terminator 2 should be seen because it's just good fun, but if you care to watch and listen more closely to it a lot of interesting things are going on. Enjoy!

I like Sci-Fi, but take them for what they are, entertainment. Something to wallow a couple of hours without taxing the mind too much (but enough to hold the interest)
Of course there are some real turkeys out there, along with turkeys in other genres. If you get a good one (Bladerunner, Star Wars first trilogy, 2001, The Matrix, even the new Star Trek) then worth watching
But of course I like other genres as well such as thrillers, Animation, Drama, Spy, War too.
Maybe I will start a new thread where we can put our top 10 films..
In fact I will

If you can find the original, get hold of one, as it is rare for a Sigma - in other words a Cracker! (the other cracking Sigmas are the 105 macro and 10-20mm DC EX superwide in case you were wondering. )

I also have a K20D and ETRS so I know it would be a fine choice.
Worth checking the film advance on the Bronica. and also when not in use take the battery out as leaving it in it goes flat and at UK£10 a pot, expensive (I know to my cost.....)

Don't worry Offertonhatter, it wasn't directed to you it happens on different sites as well and I take no personal offence and I hope you won't neither.
I also make a sharp remark to other brand owners and they can take it but it comes back as well, indeed that;s fun but there is no one to defend that brand here so

Sorry that I make a point out of this, although it's just in good fun of course, but I find it more childish & pathetic then fun to be honest to talk about another brand like that.
Aren't we proud enough about Pentax that we need to protect us like this?
Of course I am a proud Pentaxian and would'nt have it any other way, but we just have fun having a dig.

I can't argue with the K-x, as even the perennial Pentax knockers - DPReview - rate this camera as the best entry level model.
With APS-C Is the 7D that good? A friend of mine sold all his D300 kit and bought a 7D to complement his 5D mk2, so that would suggest it is mighty. The K-7 is a fine unit and I will get one soon. The D300s, does have something that I love and that is its 51AF points and 3D tracking, which personally I think is the best AF around at the moment. In the end I suppose there is nothing in it between the 7D, D300s and K-7.
Now to FF, Sony A850? I have read and seen results with this camera and the High ISO performance is not as good as Nikon and Canon rivals. However it is good value and for studio work I suppose there is nothing in it between this and the Nikon D3x and Canon 1Ds mk3.
Have you tried any 4/3rds cameras? If I chose my list, then the Penasonic GF1 would get my vote.

Now about FF. That is another thing that we want and soon.
Mind you I do have a FF Pentax, its called a film SLR.
So, those FA* would still work wonderfully on my MZ-5n, not that I use it that much these days.

Here are mine. (in no particular order)
1. Bladerunner
2. The Killing Fields
3. Goldfinger
4. Trainspotting
5. Apocolypse Now Redux
6. Schindlers List
7. The Ipcress File
8. Fargo
9. The Shawshank Redemption
10. Chicken Run
Not a bad list.
someone might put Citizen Kane (normally in the top ten of media lists, but I have'nt watched it) and 2001 just misses out.
