I am baffled!! Sold a 31mm F1.8 limited to a customer last week only to see that it was not sharp on his K10D. Assuming a faulty lens or camera I tried it on my K10D with the same result, UNSHARP through all apertures. Out of pure frustration I put the lens on both the K7D and the Kx with brilliant results. The images were so sharp you can cut yourself with it. Can anybody explain... What am I doing wrong....?
2x K10D bodies, 2x FA 28-200 3.8-5.6, DA 18-55, A 50 F2, 50mm Macro, 360 FGZ. Still saving for the 60-250 DA* Also have a Z10 35mm and a K1000 just for fun. IF PENTAX IS THE ANSWER, WHO CARES WHAT THE QUESTION IS...!

Sounds like a front / back focus issue, either with the lens or the K10D's you tried it out on.

£76...
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

That's true, I will try again when it gets back on topic .. which at increments of £1 may take a while.

Seriously, without AF adjust my 31 was very soft on K10D. It needs +130 in AF adjust

There's a substantial thread (or two) on FA31 IQ over at DP Review, concerning FF / BF / misaligned optics etc. According to some, the copies assembled in Japan are better, but others MMV.

I would suggest looking at the K10 debug mode and adjusting for BF/FF using a focus test chart or financial pages stuck on the wall, tripod mount it and use 2s mirror lock up. My K10 needs around +140um for all my lenses.

I've read several discussions of the Tamron 17-50 where people have said it requires focus adjustments for FF/BF on a K20D but works fine on a K7 without any adjustment. Something to do with the newer K7 and Kx firmware perhaps?
