I was in dubrovnik last weekend and took my K20D as normal, plus my little Fuji S5000. The K20D was as usual excellent, but the Fuji? well I think now it is time for it to retire. Mainly to do with only 3MP, ISO200 as its base speed, only Xd cards and it is noisy! However I will miss its ability to shoot RAW and put my Cokin filter holder on it. Unfortunately no modern small bridge camera provide both these features, and I do like the size and handling of the S5000. So this is where the X70 and X90 come in. I know it does not shoot RAW and I cannot put filters on it, but will I miss these with the pair? I did handle both in a shop and felt okay, if not as well built as the S5000.
So, does anyone have either of the X series and what do you think?

As an example. this was done it ISO 500 (it was overcast and a lot of people) F11 and 18mm. There is a little fall off in sharpness at the ends, but for the purpose for which it was needed it was fine.

Also, put the camera in program not Auto. I was advised this by a pro-photographer who does a lot of flash group/individual photography. a diffuser will also be needed (such as a stofen)as without the light from the flash will be too narrow to get everyone in. Also, put the ISO at 200-400, 200 if it a bright day outside 400 if you are inside with plenty of light. I have done this, including a group of 30 people and it works.

Another option is get a lead lined bag (I have one) fill it up with film. It will come up as a big black rectangle on the x-ray, they will ask you open it, show them it is film and normally they are happy.

10FPS on the sensor? Hmmm interesting.
Surely the fps is based on two factors. The buffer of the processor and the ability of the mirror and shutter to move at that speed.
Neither have been mentioned, only the A/D converter.
Now, if the K-7 shutter/mirror combo is capable of these speeds, and they can create a memory buffer, then all well and good.
We shall see if they choose this sensor.
But a sensor producing 10fps on its own? I don't think so.

The Kx is indeed a stunning DSLR, I would choose over the Km anyday. Nice and small, uses AA batteries (a plus or minus depending on your point of view) and really excellent low light performance. It even puts the K-7 in the shade on this (so to speak).
However, you can still get brand new K200D and K20D bodies in shops in the UK (not sure where you are Andy), for less than a new Kx. I have three bodies, namely the istDS, the K10D and the K20D. Each is excellent. All three have pentaprism viewfinders, unlike the Kx,Km and K200D, but I won't go into technicalities as to why.
Personally, I would say, that going for a K20D would be a better choice, but it is not a "beginners" DSLR. However if you are willing to learn and work with the camera, it will reward you even more than the Kx. But if you are happier with the Kx then that is the one for you.
If you need to know where you can get a new K20D, then let me know, but they are not far from me (Bolton). Whoops, there is a clue.....
Hope this helps.

Hi Stefan,
I would also consider the old DA16-45 if I were you. Okay its f/4 and not the f/2.8 you want, but it is a really capable lens and you can pick up second hand examples quite easily for a lot lot less than the DA16-50.

A good comparison of the two here:

I didn't want to mention the 16-45mm as Stefan wanted F2.8, but is indeed an excellent lens and hardly off my camera.

Great find Stefan.

24mm a No No
50mm is pushing it for head and shoulders.
85mm is coming into being.
135-200 spot on.

My opinion only, but a good example....
