Howdo - pleasure to stumble across you chaps and I wasn't too annoyed, though did feel like a round peg in a square hole toting another brand. Nice to see so many Pentax people in one place and some cracking shots you gents have gathered!
Greetings Peter.
Personally I did'nt mind the D700 being touted around, at least you have a K-5......
Now that Pano GF3, I saw the web site, hmmmmm - No, I have the LX5, and And I have the K-5 with the 21mm on the front. But......

Interesting thread this.
One thing I do know (knowing the Manager at Jacobs in Manchester). They had a nice stock of Pentax lenses on display. Not the full range, but some nice kit - 55DA*, 200DA*, 17-70DA, 300DA* and various bodies. However, when Focus was on at the NEC, Jacobs themselves had to put these on display at Focus due to shortage of stock overall.
So, not only do the Bricks and Mortar shops not have kit to play with and try, Pentax themselves need to supply more for availability.
Maybe this "price re-alignment" will help, not in the shot term for actualy photographers, but possibly long term to actually having stock in stores for consideration.

Now Pentax need to ensure that they price kit accordingly (ie not price a 50-135 the same is a 70-200 CaNikon, same with the primes - however this seems to be okay at the moment) but that is another story.

We shall see.

Aaah now I see where he is coming from, although he put it across completely the wrong way.

He is thinking that 70mm will act like a 105mm Macro on APS-C.
I say act, but that is a misnomer. It will give the same angle of view as a 105mm on Full Frame, but will still be a 70mm and will act as such.

There is nothing wrong with either a 90 or the 105 (or the the 70 come to think of it) on a Pentax digital body, all will produce excellent results, you will just need to be a bit further away from the subject with the 105 as opposed to the 70mm, but that is no bad thing with insects.

My glasses came from Vision Express, and the lenses came out of boxes branded - Pentax! Mind you lenses branded Pentax are actually Hoya - The main reason why Hoya bought Pentax in the first place, not the Camera division. Still I can proudly say I see though Pentax Lenses......

I just phoned my local independant camera shop to enquire about the sigma and tamron lenses and the person there told me that these two macro lenses would not be suitable for a digital pentax camera when using for macro work. He said that they are full frame lenses and this would mean that I wouldn't get the same macro results on my camera.
Can anyone shed any more light on this for me please?
He is talking complete and utter nonsense!
As has been said FF lenses work perfectly well on APS-C cameras.

I believe (I may be wrong here) but putting a FF macro lens actually gets you a tad greater than 1:1 on APS-C than on full frame, so, if this correct, having APS-C actually enhances the macro of the lens over FF not the other way around. I am sure I read this somewhere, maybe some can confirm this.........

Supersammy,

Funnily enough a few of us users on here were talking about the Sigma today, and what a fine lens it is (I bought mine with me)

I actually have both lenses, albeit the non-DG Sigma and the old Adaptall F2.5 Tamron.
From personal experience, there is not much in it.
Having said that, my version of the Tamron is only 1:2 macro, and needs the dedicated 2x converter which makes it a 1:1 180mm F5 (such is the converter). The current F2.8 model is a true 1:1 macro without the need of a converter.
The Sigma is true 1:1 from the outset.

Both are seriously sharp, and very useable.
However my Tamron (and we are talking about a 25 year old lens) is not as contrasty as the Sigma, but again this may be different with the current version.

So, to be honest, either will make excellent lenses for macro, and indeed tele/portrait lenses, so there is not much at all between them, apart from the focal length.

This has probably not helped at all, but I hope it has.....

I think I might be the first to post images Alan, albeit on Flickr....
I must post more on here as well, in fact I might just do that
I think Peters username is DigitalCG, I'm sure that was it.

Again, Thanks to to Davem for finding out about this event and posting accordingly. Now I wonder if DaveHolmes managed to get his reconditioned MX back with the new Leather. From his phone image it looked pretty good
