I went to photograph edinburgh by night yesterday evening - as anyone who knows edinburgh will know, there is a fairground by princes street at christmas time - I came out with this

I quite like it - the rapid movement of the rides contrasting the motionless silhouettes - please give me any critiques - I can always go and try again - the wheels there for a while

tell me if you can't see the image - from past experience my links don't often work

I sometimes see instructions to 'check your histogram' after a shot to verify exposure when viewing the lcd may not be easy. This leads me to the question - what should the histogram look like? I know it is a powerful tool but I don't really know how to benefit from it . Any help would be much appreciated

As you say Mongoose, the Dl2's burst rate will never be a record holder but thats a pretty significant improvement. I use a kingston generic card in my dl2 (yes, some people still use them )which is even slower than your pre-upgrade times. I think a new card is in order Why didn't you go for the 133x - only another £3

I fall into the under 20 category mentioned above, and only had a compact 35mm and a compact digital (I regret, not pentax ) before my dl2. As is frequently mentioned on this forum, the salesman was busting his gut to sell me a canon 350d or a nikon d50. Neither of these cameras felt right in the hands and the viewfinders weren't nearly as good the pentax. I was intent on buying the pentax as I knew any lenses I found cheaply on ebay etc would work - The salesman didn't really see this as a major plus, and encouraged me to buy the DA lenses, if I really felt I had to buy pentax. Clearly these suit the istD series best, but I found it slightly strange as that shop (J****ps) didn't even stock a single K lens!

In my humble opinion I don't see why pentax would want to produce a full frame body after commiting themselves to what would be an incompatible line of DA and DA* lenses. Long live pentax

CutePDF is a good (and free ) pdf program, but i'm not sure if it supports encryption - have a look on google. even if it doesn't, its otherwise a v. useful tool.

I always wondered how to capture the silky effect of moving water. I wish i'd had a tripod, but I'd say it isn't bad for 1/2 second handheld. What do people think?

I was thinking about getting hold of some ND grads as well, and finally did a couple of days ago. I have a cokin 'A' gradual grey, which does affect the colour in the photo, but makes for some interesting effects. I've never used one, but apparently Lee filters' ND grads are truly neutral density and don't affect the colour, but are pretty expensive. i'd certainly go for the ones you mention and give them a go

If you want to use autofocus with your polariser it'll need to be circular, otherwise a linear one will do. My polariser is of the type that screws directly onto the filter ring and it gives amazing results (£10 from ebay) my feeling is that unless you want to use it with a very wide angle lens, (which wouldn't work with sky anyway because of uneven polarisation) paying for a whole square of polarising material (for a cokin holder etc) is a waste because only a circular section in the centre gets used
