It's impressive, but it's not photography. To me, anyway. I appreciate that others may, and no doubt will, disagree vehemently.
mmm my GCSE French is rusty.

I read that as "it's impressive, but it isn't the railway station"

which is true, but less relavent than your intended meaning.
I think (without Googling) that the saying was attributed to a French (or French-speaking) officer observing the Charge of the Light Brigade. "Impressive, but it's no way to fight a war."

But I'm sure you knew that. If you were to ask for the Guerre du Nord in Paris I don't know what you'd find, but I am sure you'd miss your train.

G
TBH George these days if I tried to ask for the Gare du Nord I'd probably end up having my buttocks fondled. If ever there was an argument to suggest that the French GCSE is too easy, it's the fact that I possess an A grade in the subject!

sorry

not sure what they stand for, but:

TN panels are cheap and fast but have dire colours. A lot of them can't even display full 8bit/channel.

PVA and S-IPS panels are more expensive and harder to find in smaller monitors (which is why I leapt at my 19" PVA). They have much better viewing angles too.

watch out, manufacturers have a habit of changing from PVA/S-IPS to TN without telling anyone, so be careful.

You're not going to get a more compact zoom lens, or not much. The 28mm lenses are your best bet.

G
unless you count the 35-70 you already have, that is pretty compact (barely bigger than a 50mm F1.4 if I recall)

I have a 28mm f2.8 Sigma MF Mini Wide II in the for sale section, nice little lens for the money.
Hi Mike,

I took a look, and will happily take a risk at the requested £30. Unable to send PMs as I only registered a few days ago unfortunately, but if you can PM an email address to me I can let you have delivery address, suggest method of payment etc. Unsure if the "Ricoh pin" needs to be disabled for use on a K100D Super body, perhaps someone can advise on that.

Grateful to everyone for the replies. Thanks!
I think it's advisible to dissable/remove the so called "ricoh pin" from any lens to be used on a Pentax body with AF. As I understand it the pin can become jammed in the auto-focus drive screw, locking the lens onto the camera in a way that is very hard to remove.

it certainly is amazing how digital changes your mindset when it comes to exposures.

When I shot film I would go out with two 36exp rolls, intending to shoot one of them (and Damn the expense!). If I actually shot a whole roll I thought I'd either been machine gunning or had seen some really interesting subjects. The second roll was there in case I finished the first one and then something unmissable happened, it rarely got loaded let alone used.

Now with the K10D even having slowed down somewhat in recent times I come back with 50+ shots regularly.

my HP 1955 (a PVA panel) is pretty close out of the box, just needs the brightness and contrast dropping a bit, other than that Huey doesn't do anything visible to the colours and it matches prints nicely.

I've also concluded that if you are unlucky enough to be unable to afford more than a TN panel and don't have space for a CRT, then colour profiling is a waste of time. All the TN panels I've tried my Huey on ended up worse after calibration than before.

Having experienced the difference I'll never buy a monitor with a TN panel again.

Best of luck Chris and friends, sounds like things are going well for SRS, and when things go well for SRS that means they're going well for Pentax users in the UK (well the south east at least!).

I am particularly interested by your lens renting plans, presumably details will be available on the website when you've sorted it out. I await more info with interest!
