has user comments on most Pentax lenses.

What you have there is an SMC-A 50mm F2.

It is the cheapest and least superb of the 50mm Pentax offerings. It is an unsung hero and actually a pretty good lens, especially for the price. Still the 1.7, 1.4 and 1.2 are all better if you can get them.

The number of people on ebay who manage to confuse the F2 with an F1.2 is most irritating. I'm still waiting for the day someone does it the other way round so I can bag me a bargain.

Got to agree with George but Tim's Duck is a peach, the DA 50-200 is a must for part of a walk about kit, fanstatic value for money.
agreed, and fantastic performance for size and weight too, it just nestles happily in the bottom of my long nosed bag waiting quitetly for when I need it.

It's particularly good value for the price I paid for it, since I got it free with my *istDL2 last summer when Jessops were doing their exclusive deal thing.

well I got an e-mail straight back from 7dayshop apologising and offering a replacement or refund.

Just hope my replacement card arrives before I go on holiday.

cheers guys, I've never had exactly this problem with my cheapo cards. The lock luggs on them move pretty easily but I think that's just because they are cheap and nasty cards. The Sandisk had been great until I came to get it out of its case and the lug was gone.

Still if it was going to do this I'm glad it's done it now and not in a few weeks time when I'm on holiday in Canada.

I came to install my recently purchased Sandisk Ultra II 1GB card in my K10D today only to be greeted with "card locked".

I thought the lug must have been knocked, so I took the card out to find that the lug is missing!

I bought a Sandisk one this time in the hopes that the lugs would be better made, since my other cards often lock themselves when I insert them into the camera. Apparently this particular card isn't that well made though. I shall be having words with 7dayshop as the card is only 2 weeks old.

Square sensor,..25mm X 25mm
....format change (without having to physically reposition camera..we've had it for 50+ years on MF ) by pressure switch under either thumb for JPEG, full sensor capture for RAW....live feed to lcd,......lcd which can be oriented...remote feed to laptop,...duplicate memory card capture,...interchangeable viewfinders with MF choices(I had this on my Canon F1 system 28 years ago),...remote viewfinder facility with well designed choices,...differential masking of sensor,...full X-sync for flash,...wireless sync,.....supplied flash co-axial socket (why is this NOT on k10D???) ....'real' mirror lock-up (and down) by easily accessed pressure switch (why is this NOT on k10D??)...no fouling of lens mount by projecting body sections....provision of microprism ring on focussing screen (why is this missing from K10D??)....cable release socket (why is this missing from K10D??..yes, I know there is remote release facility!).....

good list, can't say I agree with many of them (though official MF finder screens would be very nice) but at least you have stated your position now.

Given your hatred of mindless complexity it is interesting that you include live view, which I regard as nothing but a rarely useful gimick. I guess one mans gimick is another mans killer feature.

Viewfinder, have you actually used a K10D?

I use mine a lot, and I really am not seeing the mindless complexity which you love to vocalise about. With the sole exception of the "slimming" filter, I don't believe there is a single feature on it which I have not used in real life photography. I've even used the in camera RAW development when I was stuck for time and away from my computer.

Would I like to see full mirror lockup? yes. Is it a deal breaker? no

You love to complain about DSLRs being overcomplicated and not exploiting the benefits of digital, but I have never yet seen you put forward a suggestion of what you would like to see instead. So tell me, what is it that you find so wrong with the K10D its siblings? What would you change?

both the DS and the K10D have mirror pre-fire, which is close enough for me.

set the camera to 2seconds self timer and the mirror flips up when you hit the button, two seconds before the shutter itself fires.

TBH I thought they'd already reached that status, this is the first mention I've heared of them since I bought mine. In 2001.

These things do indeed work well although they are a bit noisy (you can hear the dummy spools turning, at low volume levels) but I certainly wouldn't pay over 15 quid for one!
not in my car you can't!

on the other hand, TBH you can't hear much of anything in my car when the engine is on lol
