or use the 2-second delay which automatically turns it off
ahha, I didn't know that. I almost always use 2 sec delay when using a tripod, so that would explain why I've never noticed SR causing trouble!

I've never yet seen shake induced by SR on a tripod, but this may be just because my tripods are so cheap that they shake just as much as my hands!

Hi and welcome to the forum,

it's very early days yet for used K200Ds, I'd be very surprised if you find one.

As for K10Ds, with the new stock running out fast at heavily discounted prices I doubt you'll see a lot of saving over buying a new one. SRS Microsystems are about to get one final batch of K10D's in and are taking deposits.

to be fair, the * has been used in lens names since the M series, and I've always liked it as a pro series designator.

It's only the *ist cameras which I consider to have a silly name.

Better still, don't test at all and only clean your sensor if a dark speck or blob shows up on one of your normal photos.
Agreed, to an extent, but finding you have a massive dust fleck on your sensor AFTER you shoot a wedding (or insert suitable non-repeatable photo op here) is not very helpful.

Damn things always show up at the most inconvenient possible moment.

I don't think the shakey dust remover thing works particularly well.

HOWEVER. DR isn't just that, the sensor is also coated to repel dust from sticking in the first place. My K10D is dramatically less susceptible to sensor dust than my *istDL2, even though the latter gets fewer lens changes than the former.

Daniel, if your Tamron 300 F2.8 is anything like mine (and I don't see how it can not be) then it's a stellar lens if you can be bothered to carry it around with you. Mine out resolves my K10D by F5.6 although it does suffer a little from PF in high contrast situations

As I see it, the DA* may or may not be better optically, where it is going to really win is portability. If the DA* 300 can provide the performance of the Tamron 300 2.8 (albeit at 1 stop slower max aperture) while weighing half as much and being half the size, it's got to be a winner.

I wouldn't take my Tamron 300 to the top of a mountain on the off chance I might see an Eagle, I certainly would take a DA* 300 (if I were to find £900 on the street tomorrow and suddenly be able to buy one that is).

hey I know that mill

I've tried to take photos of it a few times and never really got anywhere. You've done better than I have!

I like #2 and #3 particularly, well done.

it's also the only Pentax auto focus compatible teleconverter, albeit AF compatible in a somewhat bizare fashion.

Here it is. Just a quick snap.
/me compares the resulting photo to his own demo shots of the phone on a table. Hangs head in shame.
