K10D/GX10 dust prevention system - seems to work

Every now & again I routinely check my GX10 sensor for dust and after 8 months of ownership & some lens changing I've not encountered anything significant - I've performed a quick blast with the rocket blower only once.

The conclusion I draw from this is that the dust prevention must be reasonably effective

DR on my K10D has done absolutely nothing to remove dust from my sensor. I've had to remove both small and large particles manually.

I reckon DR is a more a marketing gimmick than anything else. The other brands have it, so Pentax has to have it too.

If it makes more people buy Pentax, it's not a bad thing anyway

I don't think the shakey dust remover thing works particularly well.

HOWEVER. DR isn't just that, the sensor is also coated to repel dust from sticking in the first place. My K10D is dramatically less susceptible to sensor dust than my *istDL2, even though the latter gets fewer lens changes than the former.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

DR on my K10D is permanently disabled. I never use it and prefer to keep the battery power for taking pics.

Likewise. DR is switched off and only used occasionally. Dust seems to be a minimal problem.
Best regards, John
