gentlemen, you forget! there is one and only one situation in which a man is permitted to read a manual, and that is while waiting for the new toy to be ready to play with!

Hi Terje,
Well why when I turn on Traceys K100D Super does it vibrate like my K20D?
The K100D and the K100D Super are different cameras - the "Super" part refers to the fact it has had shake reduction / sensor cleaning added to its spec. It replaced the K100D mid-run.
it had sensor cleaning added, but all K100D's have shake reduction.

it was the K110D which didn't.

(is this thread getting complex or what?)

just a point to note, it will work in P and Tv with any camera which has those modes, which includes some which don't have body aperture control in M and Av.

a friend of mine borrowed my 18-55 and used it to take some very unflattering close in portraits of me at 18mm in P mode on his P30T.

I would love to see it, but gave up all remaining hope when the K20D came out without it.

The only way I can see it being done now is if the hypothetical K1D were to come out with a larger than APS sensor. That being the case, it might make sense to Pentax to re-instate the aperture coupler so as to maximise the available glass for the top of the line camera which would initially be supported by a diminished lens base.

Other than that I can't see them doing it.

Once again Pentax if you're listening, prove me wrong on the K30D and I'll be first in line to buy one.

under £100 you have 3 options

Tamron 70-300

Second hand FA80-320

FAJ 75-300

Pentax fan though I am, I would rate them in that order. The Tamron has more CA than the Pentax FA, but is far sharper at 300mm than the 80-320. I have not used the FAJ but have been told it isn't as good as the 80-320.

Since it's unlike Pentax to be unhelpful for the sake of it when it comes to backwards compatibility, I'm going to hazard a guess that the multi point AF requires some item of information which is not passed back by the older MF lenses.

I can't figure out why this should be, but that could just be because I have an incomplete understanding of how the AF/MF confirm system works.

I have the FA 80-320, my Dad has the DA 55-300. There is simply no comparison between them at 300. The DA is smaller, lighter, focuses faster and is usably sharp wide open even at 300. The FA is full frame and slightly faster, but you have to stop down to F8 at least at 320mm so in effect it is actually slower.

Suffice to say that as soon as I can get the money together, I'll be retiring my 80-320 in favour of a 55-300.

I've seen the head tracking before on this guys YouTUBE videos, but I hadn't seen the white board one before.

This guy is pretty amazing, and it really shows the power of the internet that we've all seen it.

I generally understand the histogram but what exactly would i be looking for!!
bearing in mind that the shot will, and should, be mostly black, the histogram will (and should) be bunched up largely at the bottom end. You are then looking for the bright sections (the fireworks) to be as far towards the right as possible without actually hitting the end.

For most fireworks, F8@ ISO 100 works pretty well. Some of the extra bright ones you will find you need to stop down a bit more to keep from blowing out.
