Interestingly Asahi declined to do it and recommended Johnsons. You think it's sticky blades then?

My 70 Ltd no longer exposes correctly at f22 and I suspect that the aperture control is in some way wrong as when you flick it with your finger (off camera) it's sluggish to move unlike my other lenses. My guess is that it doesn't stop down fast enough and hence over exposes.

I cleaned the contacts but working the lever by hand suggests it's not as smooth as it should be.

Anyway it needs a repair - who do I go to? There's Johnsons but I'd rather deal locally if I could - I am based in Worcestershire.

All advice appreciated.

I think that maybe you are overlooking that when focussing by any method the focus is (I believe) taken off the focussing screen while the mirror is down. Therefore if the screen has moved slightly during the repair what is sharp on the screen may not be sharp on the sensor as they no longer 'match'. I don't know if that helps (or is indeed correct).

Nothing will induce me to enter personally as it's something I did, enjoyed and sort shuffled away from.

The exciting bit for me is seeing the other entrant's images as they are posted and my fear is that with a month that will only happen towards the last week for the reasons I gave above.

One way round this might be to create a forum thread where you put up your candidate entries to show how you're thinking and perhaps to inspire others.

But, no I doubt I will enter again - BTDT.

I barely post here any more although I lurk to get valuable snippets of info. So, no I doubt that I would enter and I don't like the gallery anyway although I couldn't tell you why! I thought I would just offer some thoughts based on experience. I think to be successful you need it to be ideally exciting, at least interesting and I fear a monthly format like this will lead to nothing seeming to happen for a long time which won't engender interest in non regulars.

I have followed this with interest as I used to enter the fortnightly from its inception.

With a month only the very foolhardy would submit in the first two or three weeks - in case a better shot/opportunity came along. Therefore, there is the risk that you procrastinate and leave it all just for a few days more and towards the end of the month realise that the deadline is racing towards you, you have nothing and there is a dearth of opportunity.

This may also lead to a total lack of images for 3 weeks which will make it look like the competition is a flop to any drive by viewers.

With a fortnightly deadline you daren't think that way and need to get thinking from the very start and also you get more topics so you can miss one that doesn't suit - for example for me wildlife I would simply ignore.

That said I wish you every luck with the new format.

Take an offer on the spot meter?

Forgive me but I had another camera that used an external VF very much like the Pentax one and I found that while it was a 'good idea' and allowed me to shoot in a more familiar way it made the camera awkward to carry and a lot bigger. I was always a little aware that the VF got biffed and bumped and given the cost this was a 'bad idea'. I found a better solution to the problem.

I didn't realise that removing the AA filter rendered the images in B&W. I thought the camera with no name has no AA filter and those Nikon images look quite colourful. Are we straying off topic again?

Given that Harleys are appalling motorcycles as motorcycles and trade only on their iconic status I don't think this is a very simile. A Honda Golden Wing (is it - that big one) has tremendous style and quality of manufacture and are iconic in their own way. And I can afford neither.

I understand the point you're making but I'm not sure I agree as the no name camera has a lovely feel rather akin to my old Leica IIIA. It does feel solid and it is well made and remains light because it uses less metal which I see as an advantage. No sensor based camera will last as long as an M3 say as the technology moves on so fast. I can afford the no name and I'll bet in terms of quality it can give the Leica a run for its money in the right hands.
