The comparative compactness of APS-C still has a lot going for it in many ways - not least the fact that I would really miss my fab 20-40 as a walk-around if I changed formats.

And another for the 10-17FE. Easy to de-fish when necessary, and compact.

Another one here using the laptop card slot for transfer. John mentioned SD cards not being permanent for long-term storage; I've also had the same issues with DVDs created in the early noughties - not with photos but with sound recordings that I've lost because the discs have become unreadable. I use redundant external hard drives now.

Hi from the UK, Dale, welcome. Yes, take your time and concentrate on the basics while the muscle memory kicks in for what the buttons do and where they are. The K-5 is a marvellous machine; I can't bear to sell mine even though I rarely use it now.

That's what I do too. Used to leave it on but it does drain.

I usually go out with the K-3II, and if the Good Mrs Micro is in a photographing mood, she'll take the K-5. If a backup is necessary I'll put the 55-300PLM on the K-3II and the 20-40 Ltd on the K-5.

Nice job, Nigel, I look forward to your updated publication - who knows, it might inspire me to use the AF201FG more than I do now.

The PLM is sharper wide open than the original 55-300 (I have both) so you may not need to worry.

Welcome - and couldn't agree more about the 20-40! If I want an approximate 15mm FOV, I take two overlapping portrait shots at 20mm and stitch using ICE.
