Hi All,
Just booking my photographic and leisure days out and I'm going to a classic race day at Thruxton and a festival and probably a Air show. Looking for a long lens for these occasions, I do have the 55-300 PLM but not sure this is up to it. My thought were 60-250 or 300, what do you use?

Hi Derren, you'll get so many different answers you'll be more confused afterwards than what you are now!
Either the KP or the K3ii with the 55-300 PLM is likely to be the fastest focussing combination, and with the KP you can go to unimaginable ISOs ! If the weather is very overcast the 55-300 might seem a little on the slow side so a faster lens may help a bit keep the shutter speeds up, if that's what you want. Sometimes though a slower shutter speed enhances the action. On this occasion I'd try what you have already and see how it copes. If you find you need a lens with a wider aperture you'll know for another time.

Really depends on how close you are going to be to the action but for an air show it's usually safe to say the longer the better. I will normally just take the 150-450mm unless there is a static display when I will also include a wide angle,

I've found the new 55 300 PLM excellent on my K3. Not been to a race meet with it yet though. It replaced a 300 F4 star and tele adapter. I've not regretted it so far.It does let in less light BUT it doesn't hunt and is very quick to focus.

Thanks All, looks like I'll give my new KP & 55-300 PLM combo a go, I was just worried if the light was poor I wouldn't get the shutter speeds I require but will be interesting to see how high ISO I can go.

The PLM is sharper wide open than the original 55-300 (I have both) so you may not need to worry.
