Hi Dan

Basically had more or less put some money to one side for a lense upgrade , now I'm going to have to consider a body upgrade as well then to move forward.

And if you think Womble was blunt, just wait until George sees this thread! wait until she who must be obeyed finds out I'm now looking at upgrading the camera body as well thats my big problem

Thanks for the comments , We are all entitled to our own opinions on this one , and I fully understand and appreciate Mr Wombles comment if not rather blunt.

What I was trying to say in a clumsy way was that I've always been a Pentax user , I understand that some lenses may not be compatible , however I've considered two , and find they both are not compatible with my current body .... frustrating

Makes you think about the range , and could lead to a brand switch for easier compatability. However being a dedicated Pentaxian I'll probably shell out the conkers on a K200D and plod on , at least it moves me closer to more up to date lense technology that I'm looking for.

On this occasion looks like I will have to upgrade the body before the glass

Thanks for the responses , can We assume then that the K200D will work with these Sigma lenses ?

Marvellous isn't that you can go and purchase cameras manufactured by the opposition and use lenses straight out of the box.

Its all very well Pentax having a reputation for their cameras being backwards compatible .... wouldn't mind them being a little bit future proof....

I've had ME Super / Program A / Super A /MZ5N /K100D so it shows how loyal I am , makes you wonder about swopping sometimes though

Just had an email from Pentax UK who advise their is no update ver 1.03 only 1.02 and dont mention any subsequent reference to the 120-400mm. They dont say yes or no if you need any upgrade of the firmware !

Sounds like someone doesn't know whats what somewhere down the line. Doesn't give you much faith in buying the Sigma then , you either need an update or you dont.

This is an extract from an email received today , I had enquired about the 50-500mm and 120-400mm

Thank you for your E-mail. All lenses with HSM which includes the two lenses below will need to have your camera upgraded to version 1.03 to be able to function correctly. We would suggest contacting Pentax if you cannot find a link to this software upgrade for the camera. Hope this helps. Kind regards, XXXXX Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd13 Little Mundells

I dont want to shell out any money and end up with a lens that doesn't work straight off !!

I have a K100D (not the Super ). Sigma advise that to use a 120mm-400mm on my camera I need ver 1.03 firmware update. Can only find this reference for an IST DL update , is this correct or can someone provide the correct link.

Doesn't seem to be any updates since 2006 for the K100D.

Thanks for the link Scotthehat

Think I emailed the folks on that link and either they didn't have any or the 150-500mm was in stock but wouldn't work on a K100D- software issue.

The company I was looking at originally was Fotosense .... not anymore
Wouldn't mid but if you want the lens in Canon or Nikon its still showing at £729 !!!

Hi Janeyb

I can highly recommend the Dust Aid equipment. You need to press on quite firmly and cover the entire sensor a couple of times , but the results are brilliant. Used my K100D yesterday and not a dust spot to be seen

Hi

Managed to use swabs and Eclipse cleaner on the K100D from Cameraclean website , thought it had initially done the job ...........but it didn't.

Next attempt Dust Aid sticky pads ... took a few applications but it appears to have done the trick ...fingers crossed

Thanks for the advice
