Is it a feasible to change the plastic mount on my 55-300D AL, with the metal mount from a broken 28-80 F AL? I am a little nervous about doing this, although there is an article on another forum which gives details. I am hoping that some of the members on here who are adept at dismantling and servicing lenses can perhaps give a few tips.

Thank you in advance for any info received.

John.

I too dropped my 16-45mm. I took it to Johnsons at Newcastle under Lyme who are official Pentax agents. They were able to repair the lens, which exhibited similar symptoms to yours. It took around 6 weeks or so as they were waiting for spares from Japan. (A new lead ring was quoted.) The repair cost me £100, and the lens seems as good as new. I should mention that I have no connection with Johnsons, other than as a satisfied customer.

It doesn't really matter about the LTV though does it? Surely what does matter is the performance, and even more importantly, how much pleasure the camera gives you. I seldom part with my old cameras anyway. They may not get used but, like a good book, they become old friends.

Pentax Z1, then Canon EOS 100, Canon 300D, followed by a Pentax K20d. Still got the Z1 and the 100, and have just purchased a Contax G1 and lenses. Cant wait to try it out if the weather ever gets better
