I have a copy of the Tamron 28-75mm and am very satisfied with it. The only problem I have found is that it is very prone to flare if the sun is anywhere near the front element. That apart it's a good performer optically.

I'm with you there Mike. Even allowing for time to get to know the camera I won't need to make any decisions until early April. Of course if the reports show the AF is fast and accurate, and it has a good sized buffer and no sensor problems I could bring purchase forward.

Same problem here Mike. Mind you it does look good against a leaden sky. I wonder if it's more a problem with advancing subjects rather than retreating ones. Seems that way to me.

I finished up buying a D300, 300mm f4 and 1.5X tc to sort the problem. Kept the Pentax gear for everything else as it's excellent. If the K3 will do what I need for aircraft, ie. fast spot-on focusing, and track accurately too, I won't hesitate to px the Nikon gear for a K3. Think I'll hire one next year first though to make my own mind up.

I've got a Z1 (not P) and although I hadn't used it for some 6 or 7 years I recently put a film through and it behaved impeccably. Pretty good I think.

I too have found that if the lens I amusing (usually Pentax 50-300 or Sigma 150-500) loses focus it's impossible to regain it quickly. What I usually do is quickly refocus on a terrestrial object such as maybe a very distant tree or some other high-contrast distant object. I can then regain the aircraft, focus and continue.

It's not a brilliant solution but does work although there have been several times when I've thought about buying a different marque specifically for aircraft photography.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of Pentax cameras I've seen today at the Llangollen Railway Spring Gala. I've probably seen 4 or 5 users today excluing myself. That's pretty good considering I was only there for around half a day.
