Beware - I got into lots of bother with the MODs for daring to ask such a question during a for sale post!!

Our Tanzanian guide recommended a sock over the lens - quick to whip off when you need the camera and pretty good at keeping dust out meanwhile. Also you don't lose the lens cap then as it stays in the bag.
I used my Sigma 28-300 on safari, with my Ds. No other lenses to reduce dust, and no filters. Worked well but next time, hopefully there will be a next time, I'd take the Bigma I think (or the 60-250* but I don't think that would be long enough in Tz).
If you are taking internal flights you must be aware of weight restrictions too.
Most important re weight: we were limited to 15kg - However, that was hold baggage. Hand carried didn't appear to count!

Been twice in the last couple of years. First year's dilemma was which lens. Opted for FA*300 and FA 50mm Macro. No filters just a good lens blower. As for the bag, I used a Currys special as it sat flat on the floor of the jeep and was easy to access the camera when needed (Most of the time) but more importantly, when things got dusty whilst on the move, the camera could be quickly stowed away.

This time I took the DA*60/250 because in the Masai Mara, the game gets really close as the driver is not confined to the tracks. A small tripod or clamp could have been useful to mount the camera and fix it to the jeep body. Bean bag is a useful altenative if standing up in the vehicle and viewing through the roof opening. Keep the lens hood in place to not only reduce flare etc but also protect the front element when bouncing about on rough tracks. I got into a camera cleaning regime once back at base. A K7 + 60/250 May be dust proof - however....
Enjoy the trip and look forward to some images here

Andrew - are you pleased with your photos? If so, job done!
Quite so. But once displayed to others they may not have the same reactions as the photographer.

If your sole aim is to take photographs you like why show them to anyone else?

Mike
Point taken. However, why not show photographs that you have taken and are pleased with to others.

Let us confine technical nit-picking to the competition sections. Here, if a photographer thought a shot worthy of taking, and sharing... That's enough for it to be here.
I can't agree with that. For me this area is exactly for critique, both good and bad. It helps me to learn and I'm sure that goes for others too.
You can please some of the people some of the time etc etc

so what's wrong with booze ?
The Gopherment are going to make it too expensive.

An appeal to wine drinkers - please try to stick to bottles with cork stoppers.

To make these, they have to grow trees which gives birds homes.

Thankyou.
The Gopherment can then chop them down - displace the birds and turn the trees into paper on which to print their pointless drivel...
