Well the replacement K-5 II body arrived today as promised. I'll post a new thread regarding the low light AF on this camera as that's really a separate topic.

This will go down like a lead balloon, but maybe you should have considered full frame if you intend to shoot weddings and portraits
Pentax don't make a FF camera at this time, but in any event FF cameras are not necessary for shooting weddings. There are plenty of photographers shooting commercial and wedding photography with Pentax DSLRs.
Indeed, having read extensive discussions on the subject in other forums, there are pro photographers out there shooting weddings with m4/3 systems these days. Probably not a lot, but I'm willing to bet the numbers are gradually increasing.

Are they bringing a replacement with them?
It's already been picked up, but no they are going to test the faulty body before sending out a new one, which is reasonable enough.

Mark, that must have been (almost) heartbreaking!!
On the plus... I'm sure SRS will sort it out as a matter of urgency...

That's why I buy from SRS, imagine trying to get anywhere with an eBay special from HK?
Yeah, SRS were more than helpful when I had a problem with my Tamron lens. As for the K-5 II they arranged for somebody to come to my flat and pick it up, and only asked me to return the body and not bother will all the other bits and pieces.

Didn't anybody tell you not to check the AF by pointing the camera at a white wall?
Of course, that's why I was pointing it at a black wall.

I received my K-5 II today and was looking forward to trying out the much discussed, greatly improved low-light auto focus system. Unfortunately this proved impossible as it turned out I had received the (hopefully) extremely rare limited edition manual focus version. Yup, the AF system on my K-5 II doesn't work... at all*. Regardless of the ambient light conditions or what lens I stick on the front of it just hunts back and forth through the full focus range and never acquires a lock, ever.

Needless to say, I am returning it. Of course it should go without saying but all of this is no reflection on SRS who have acted with complete professionalism throughout. I'm sure they'll get a replacement body to me with the minimum of delay.

*(Actually this isn't quite true, the Live View AF system functions perfectly well, for what little it's worth.)

The K-30 is ridiculously good value for money as it is. The fact that it isn't steamrollering the competition only goes to show just how far Pentax still have to go in terms of brand awareness.

Will you be taking it out on shoots along with the K-5 as a second body?

Straight up with the flash head turned 90 degrees which makes it quick to swap from landscape to portrait mode.
Thanks. I wasn't sure how they are intended to be used but that makes sense now that I visualise it.
