Ebay Lambency Flash Diffuser

So I thought I would give one of these a go seeing how cheap they are and have to say I am mightily impressed.

I have myself a weekly a job shooting in a club, where due to the darkness I have to use flash, the ceiling of the club is painted red so bouncing is not an option. Using flash straight on caused me a fair bit of work in post & a fair amount of shadows on walls behind subjects.

Used the Lambency diffuser tonight and have to say my post work has been cut right down and I am really pleased with the results.

Qulaity gary - I've had success with a homemade bubblewrap/gaffa and velcro diffuser.

btw - how do you focus in such low light in pubs/clubs? do you use the focus assist light?

Focus? hmm tricky, MF set lens to 2 feet and I move backwards and forwards until focus confirm lights up

Its all technology lol... With practice I can now nail focus usually first time, some I miss but not many

I work between 11 and 1 on a Saturday night and yes see all sorts. As the club is the client they don't want those kind of photos on their page. But lets say i do have some

Straight up with the flash head turned 90 degrees which makes it quick to swap from landscape to portrait mode.

Looks a good diffuser. I wonder if the Gary Fong one is
better? .... he used to be a decent photographer so I
wouldn't expect him to put out ant trash.

I think it's based on the Gary font but without the huge expense


I tried the orange top last weekend but it was a disaster as the whole picture came out orange and didnt take the Orr lids with me, fortunately I had my stolen with me, phew!

So these last night where taken with the white top which was ideal.

The foil sounds a good idea, could reduce power and save battery life a little

I slightly modified mine as it is only held on by the front, to the rear I drilled two holes and added a couple of plastic tie straps for the strap to hold the rear down on the flash.
