Dunno really Dan. I think that some of them have 'faded' with age and I realise that no amount of tweeking of scanning options is going to bring back colour that is no longer there. I have quite a few photo's of flowers (as we all have probably) but the scans somehow don't look as contrasty as the originals.

I have a mixture of film types ranging from Boots own to Kodachrome 25 & 64 & Agfa. I wasn't too interested in those days I guess.

I've only just started this exercise so I may have more to add for info in a day or two.

I do know that I can't see much difference between 4x & 16X sample but the 16x takes ages longer (obviously) so I'll switch back to 4x.

Cheers for now,

Hi all,

I'm hoping somebody can save me some experimental time. I have the above scanner and 20 odd years worth of slides I wish to archive.

What would be the a reasonable batch setup to get the best colour definition.

I'm particularly interested to know what colour depth (8 or 16 bit) Adobe or SRGB colour space< multi sample (how many - NONE - 16X) + any other tips.

I've made a few scans at 4x sampling + adobergb + 8 bit but I'm not overly happy with the results.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

There is one important thing to keep uppermost in your mind when choosing Pentax v Canon/Nikon . . . Pentax K100D and K10D have 'Shake Reduction' implemented in the camera body which means all the old and excellent lenses benefit from it.

Canon's 'Image Stabilisation' (same song, different singer) is in the lens which means that your lens collection, even if it is only two or three to cover most of your needs, is going to be very very expensive. If you plan on spending loadsa money on lenses, why not save your money and order a K10D, then buy some of the better Pentax lenses for less money than you would otherwise spend with Canon.

I know nothing about Nikon kit.

You're quite right Don, my mistake. 20Hz (20 times per second) is the fastest rate I can set on mine. 1 Hz (one flash per second) is the slowest rate.

The AF500FTZ does do multiple flash but the repetition rate is no faster than one every second (1Hz). This is probably to prevent the flash electronics/tube from overheating.

Errata
------------------
20Hz (20 times per second) is the fastest multiple (strobe) flash rate of the AF500FTZ, not 1 Hz (one flash per second) as mentioned above.

Simple, but effective. Brilliant.

Well done Liam. Cheers,

Great stuff, thanks.

So will we see a note in the manual acknowledging technologies from Dyson ? If so, I just hope Pentax never produces a yellow bodied digital SLR

Cheers,

Odd, the first time I opened it there was a notice stating "Image stolen from the Canadianphotoclub.com - do not hotlink". Having pasted the link into a new browser window, it now shows up in the post.

Hi Steve,

I personally think you've under-priced it, even with the fault.

I would have started it at £150 and let the bidders take it up from there.

Item photos taken with the *istD I hope

Cheers,
