Hi all,

haven't done one for a long time..

As you'll know, the tripod mounting socket at the base of the camera body isn't going to let you mount your camera + lens etc., at it's precise centre of gravity when mounting on a tripod, except for maybe an M series 50mm lens. In this case every lens is going to make your kit nose heavy and potentially unstable on a tripod. Even those lenses with a dedicated tripod mount will invariably be slightly out of kilter one way or another, as all bodies will weigh in differently. If you use a TC or two on a longish prime without a separate mount, it could make the camera very unstable on the tripod...

BUT..

All you need is a flash bracket.. like this one..

(These are rushed shots with a little P&S.. don't laugh. :twisted




find the centre of balance of the body | lens | flash etc., and adjust as required like so..




..and your camera will be perfectly balanced, and more stable every time.

I'll do another one of these in another 9 months.. keeping it regular.

Brilliant! Now all I've got to do is find a flash bracket

It occurs to me that you could use this same technique for mounting the camera about the lens's nodal point or whatever its called to avoid paralax in panoramas.
