Taliety,

The link in your post works. The link in Mongoose's post has an extraneous comma after .co.uk which is why his doesn't work. www.pentax110.co.uk will get you there. Interesting stuff on that site.

I have a K10D on its way to me and I'm very much looking forward to using it . I currently have 1 x MZ-S and 1 x *istD. I sold all my other Pentax film cameras including a Super-A, MZ-6, MZ-S, 3 x *ist-D bodies, and my *ist-DS.

I'll be keeping both of the bodies I have now, not only because they are in excellent condition, but I hope to be able to use them occasionally also. Dual card systems is not an issue for me as I just keep a couple of cards with the appropriate camera and copy them to a GigaOne 40Gb if/when I fill them.

At such time as I decide that a particular camera is not getting sufficient use, I may decide to sell. For now . . .

. . . I would keep your DL2.

Tim,

I have 2 x AF360FGZ flashes and both behave exactly the same way, but not quite as you describe.

I'm using AF360FGZ on a *istD hot shoe with an SMCP-F 28-80mm fitted.

When zooming to 50mm, my flash shows 48mm. Then when the metering times out this changes to 70mm but the head does not zoom. A half press of the shutter returns the display to show 48mm.

HTH,

Well that just proves it. The moon really is made of cheese.

It doesn't look much like cheddar 'though.

So if we go to the moon we can get free cameras?
Yes but it'll cost more than a couple of new K10D's to have all those 'blads serviced. Just imagine all the dust that must be inside 'em by now. I'll bet all of the seals are perished.

Cheers,

I have a Ds (yet to afford a leaf back, even the K10d) and the sharpness is very poor especially when compared to any Canon DSLr for the simple reason that Canon's sensors are far better.
I have owned and used a DS ( I now use a D) and never experienced lack of sharpness when the subject was correctly focussed and a half decent lens was used.

Many factors influence the sharpness of an image. A clean sensor affects sharpness to a much lesser degree (if any) than camera stability, and technique. If the camera is stable, an appropriate shutter speed is chosen and the subject is correctly focussed, you should be able to produce pin sharp images with your kit.

So, I have a few questions which might help to identify the cause of the problem. If the following brings granny and eggs to mind, I apologise. When presented with a problem it sometimes helps to get back to basics.

Are you focussing manually? Your dioptre adjustment might be wrong.
Do you get focus confirmation in the viewfinder?
Do you use a tripod and cable release? To eliminate camera shake.
Are you seeing 'poor sharpness' in printed images?
Is your camera's sensor clean and smudge free?
Are you shooting RAW or JPG?
What software are you using for sharpening?
Do you use a glass CRT monitor to view images or a flat panel? If glass, it may need adjustment.
How have you determined that Canon sensors are 'far better'?

A simple repeatable test:-
If you set your camera on a tripod, indoors, with a bowl of fruit (or similar still life object) as your subject (and fill the frame), fit a cable release, fit one of your Pentax Limited lenses, exposure mode to Tv or M, ISO 200, set a shutter speed of no less than 1/125 sec, set the correct aperture if exposure mode = M, set the focusing mode to centre spot, get positive focus confirmation from the camera . . . and take a shot with flash if necessary. Process it, DON'T crop it, sharpen it, print the full frame 10 X 8 (please, not A3) on a decent printer with photo paper and then tell us if it is sharp or not.

I for one will be surprised if it is not pin sharp.

Thanks to all for your helpful input. I have decided to keep the MZ-S for now and I've promised myself to use a few rolls of my fridge stock during the coming months.

I have also decided . . . not to buy a bigger fridge.

Thanks again,

In all honesty, I don't shoot film any more. I have a box of unused film taking up valuable space in my fridge which would be better employed storing beer for more regular use than the films enjoy.

I only have one film camera left in my 'collection' and it is a beautifully clean (due to its lack of use) MZ-S.

I have an excellent Fuji F580(6Mp) which I take everywhere, an *istD, and a K10D on its way for 'proper' photo's. These, I think, will satisfy all of my photographic needs for now and the future and I can't really foresee my using film ever again. I'm very much an amateur hobbyist, not a professional.

In my early photographic days I shot slides, then prints during the family's growing period, then . . . not a lot until . . . I 'went digital' with a Fuji MX2700 a number of years ago.

So, how many of you have film cameras in your weaponry but did not use them at all during 2006 (or even 2005)? and . . .

. . . If you were me, would you sell the MZ-S, shed a tear or three, and move on to totally digital . . . or more importantly, have a greater capacity for beer storage in your fridge.

Cheers all,

I was so surprised to see it. My wife and I went on a shopping trip to Murcia yesterday and we found a monster shopping complex. One of the enterprises was fnac (www.fnac.es) and amongst all the Canon & Nikon DSLR's was not only a K10D with DA 18-55mm for 999€ but a K100D as well (sorry, didn't get the details). They also had a smattering of P&S Pentax's. The A20 is 349€ which is of interest to me to replace my Fuji F580.

If I hadn't already got A K10D in transit from SRS I might have bought it.

One advantage of buying in Spain is 2 years guarantee. Maybe when the K1D arrives I'll buy it here

Feliz ano nuevo a todos aqui (Happy new year to all here),

Just about any old flash (Pentax fitting) will work with the K10D . . . in manual mode. TTL flash is not supported.
