I'd say you don't need a new PC, just more memory. For still image editing, the 'speed' of your graphics card is really not critical. The 'faster' cards are really designed for action games, video editing, and showing other types of moving image.

If your PC is slower than you remember it to be, you probably have a number of unnecessary programmes installed, and/or processes running. Take some time to have a look at your installed programmes and remove any that you don't need/use.

Anti-virus and anti-malware software is mostly likely to blame, or children downloading the odd game or three. I'm not suggesting you remove AV/AM software, but you might look at alternatives which are not so memory/cpu hungry.

The final remedy is to restore your PC to it's factory fresh condition with your recovery disks (EVERYTHING GETS WIPED, SO BACKUP FIRST), apply any necessary updates, then reload only the software you need/use. When that's done, keep the kids away from it.

My computer is under strain since I started using CS3, especially as I need to run Powerpoint and Adobe bridge at the same time.
Could anyone recommend a Processor, Graphics card and a suitable manufacturer.
I know there are lots out there but perhaps someone here has upgraded for the same reason and may be able to offer their experience.
Any advice really welcomed.
Tom
It might help if you told us what you have now.

The DA 12-24mm zoom is an excellent choice for landscapes. You'll probably find that the 40/43mm lenses are not wide enough because they become a short tele on digital at 60/64.5 mm. In older glass I'd say the SMCP-A 24mm 1:2.8 is just about wide enough, or the 28mm at a squeeze. In Pentax glass, interesting results can be had from the 10-17mm fisheye. Sigma produce a creditable 10-20mm non-fisheye lens too.

Surely, that was the point that Vic was making. They are advertising it as having a CF card slot.

I bought a third party rubber hood cheaply from ebay. Loobylin was the sellers ID (I think).

I can say that the image quality from the SMC Pentax-FA 28-105 is superb. It also has a power zoom function if you want/need it. I use this lens a lot and I'm very happy with it.

Like so many other things in life that are never quite as good when somebody decides to 'improve' it.

If you are going to be a serious (and busy) wedding photographer, surely the obvious solution is to have two bodies, each with different lenses. You'll not be too embarassed then when ( I stress, when, not if ) one camera fails.

For goodness sake, pack it in.

Pete, there is a PM feature for this type of thing, use it.

What EXACTLY does this thread have to do with Pentax DSLR's????
Answer . . . absolutely nothing.

This forum is for discussing all things Pentax DSLR, as its name implies.

This used to be a site apart from all the others where users seem to enjoy slagging each other off more than they enjoyed their chosen hobby or career.

I don't want to read any more threads like this.

4. get a £300 second camera maybe the K100s or K100
Save the extra £99 and get a second K10D from SRS would be my choice. Why change down from a 10Mp model to 6Mp? You'll notice the difference, and will have wasted yet more money.
Once you've started to really get used to the 'pro' features of the K10D, you'll certainly miss them on the K100, wireless flash, for one.
I've had my DA* 16-50mm for a few days now and it is lightning fast and whisper quitte. You'll make more noise shuffling around the church than your AF will. Mirror slap?, all DSLR's make a noise, get over it.
Think I might just do that Pete

1. A second K10D
2. A 16-50mm DA

Pete
In that case, do let us know when you've bought it. Then we'll know that you will have made at least 2 good decisions. Buying your first K10D being the first one.

Cheers,
