For info, the K10D was the last of the Pentax DSLR's to use a CCD sensor. The K20D onwards emply a CMOS device.

That may or may not be important to you Mac. Some say the CCD sensor produces richer colours.

I've always wondered about this argument for grips. Have peoples hands grow so much that a modern DSLR is too small for them? How did anyone ever manage to hold a film SLR and take great photos with it?
I used a Super-A for years (same size as the ME series). It felt only comfortable with the winder fitted to it.
It made it just that bit larger to make it easy to hold for me and I haven't extra large hands.

My grips are used to house the battery with none in the camera, and a spare memory card and I never use the grips controls.

All of my cameras have grips for one reason, the whole outfit just feels better in use with a grip. I like to know that I have a big beefy camera in my hands.

One reason I'll probably not upgrade to a K-3, apart from my not believing that it delivers an upgrade in the areas of most interest to me, is the fact that I have to buy yet another grip for it, but at least it uses the same battery as the K-5 series.

If I need an upgrade I'll just chop in my K20D + grip and K-5 for a K-5 IIs. That'll save me the £200 cost of a grip.

The plastic parts look like filters and mounts.

Thanks for explaining. Good decision and I hope you have many happy years with your camera.

Defragged, how come you neglected to mention that price was (apparantly) not important in your decision making?

You were initially considering (asking for comparisons of) K-30 @ £419, K-5IIs @ £725, yet you've ordered a K-3 @ £1099 which is almost 3 x the price of a K-30 ??????

If a K-30 was adequate for your needs, why go for a K-3 ?

You could have had a K-30 and a couple of decent primes for that money.

The K 20 has 12 elements in 10 groups, the M20 has 8 elements in 8 groups. Both have a max aperture of f4.

The A and FA 20mm lenses are more similar in that they both have 10 elements in 9 groups and they both a have a max aperture of f2.8.

Sofi is beautiful, she looks like she has a pedigree? Nice to see her.
Not a pedigree as far as I know. I think she may have some Siamese in her because she's very vocal and has gorgeous blue eyes. The rest of her is common or garden tabby I think.
