Just discovered there is a new review about the 18-135. Hope this might help members who are looking to purchase one.

DA* 16-50 review. They rated it 3* only in term of IQ

Sigma 18-50 2.8 review. Not much better but it is alot cheaper.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 review. Cheaper and better. The review is done on a Nikon camera but it the same lens.

Base on reviews the DA* 16-50 is no way as good as the DA* 50-135. If weather seal is important for you then yes go for the DA* 16-50 but if IQ is what you are after then I suggest you get the new sigma 17-50 or the tamron 17-50 and if you want it even cheaper the sigma discountinoused 18-50 is still better than the DA*16-50. I picked up my Sigma 18-50 for £150 2nd hand.

In term of colour I find the FA77 better than the FA31. but the FA77 CA a bit when shooting larger than F2.8. FA31 is sharp from F2+ and no visable CA.

Photos taken during my trip in Taiwan Feb 2011.
The quality are no way as good as the set I done from cuba and Bosnia as I only had 3 days in taiwan so everything was done in a rush.

Further conjecture - I've now seen two places selling the 50-135mm for the price I paid, which is little more than half RRP. Are Pentax planning a replacement and selling off stock of the old lens?
Please post the link so we all can grab one. Thanks.

This was the first lens I purchased after the 18-55 mark 1 kit lens. I paid £99 brand new from the shop. Althought it is a very cheap lens but the IQ is very good. It can compare with my 50-135 at both the 50 end and 135 end. Paid 5 times more for the 50-135 and sometimes wonder what is the point.

Anyway just 2 samples I have done 2 years ago with that lens.

Buy a 35mm 2.4 and start to shoot fix. You will find yourself in a different world. Well of course get the FA limited would be even better, but 35mm 2.4 is a very good start, once you shoot fix you will next return to super zooms.
Yet my 18-135mm has a permanent place in my bag whereas the 35mm 2.4 has one at home on the shelf.

Lucky we aren't all the same isn't it
Yes after I got myself the 31mm ltd I find my sigma 18-50 2.8 very rubbish, at 18mm the IQ is so bad that I wouldn;t use, when shoot at 18mm focal length I normally put on my 10-20mm sigma, then 31mm as a normal walk around lens, 50-135 when I need the reach and the 77mm ltd just to show off to canon and nikon friends that 77mm can be this small. ha ha.
