If I am going to buy the 16-50 I am going to use it for work so I need top quality lens, I currently have the sigma 18-50 2.8 EX and I also doesn't like this wide open too much, and auto focus is low light condition is a big big problem. When I try to shoot at the wider end at low light it always off focus by miles and distortion is also a big problem shooting in my small studio. I was hoping the DA 16-50 can solve such problems however after looking at your examples seems that CA is a big problem. I guess I just have to wait for pentax bring out the 16-50 mark II.

Just want to post a full size original image that shot with my sigma 18-50 and see if any DA 16-50 user think that the DA* can perform better in term of sharpness.

How does the build quality does the pentax compare to the sigma? You think in term of image quality they are both just as good?

Guys, anyone has own a the DA 16-50, the old sigma 18-50 2.8, the new sigma 17-50 2.8 and the Tamron 17-50 2.8 at the same time. Would be interesting to hear opinion from such person.

I really like the first and the 2nd photo. YOu have to clean your sensor before taking the fourth photo.

Not everyone is able to afford to buy a new lens to test it and sell it taking a 40% lost in value. If you buy a 2nd hand then you just lost 10% which is ok but 40% is far too much for me.

Remember a few months back I was arguing about the pricing for the DA* 16-50 with forum members here and it term a turned a bit ugly.

I was pointing out that point that pentax was overpricing the 16-50 while it is the the sharpest on the market and SDM fails from time to time.

Lots of people say don;t forget about the weather sealing and quick focus shift. Yes very well but I don't care if the lens can go scuba diving withing me if I have risk the SDM from failing all the time, I had experience sending my 50-135 back to pentax for repair and it took a long time and I ended up buying the same lens twice since I couldn't wait. The the 50-135mm lens case I had no choice since it is the best in it's class at this focal length. But for the 16-50, Hello!!! pentax got to wake up!!!! There aren't that many die hard Pentax fans out there will buy this regardless. £600 is far too overpriced for a lens doesn't take sharp picture wide open, bad CAs, SDM fail etc etc.

Pentax just have to come back and admit that there is a design fault and promise every single 16-50 owner to replace with a improved version one the new design is out.

Oh man I am getting upset talking about this topic. Pentax is killing itself and I really want pentax to grow and take more market share by offering photographer the best value. I do not mind the 16-50 is £1k+ as long as it works and produce images as good as the canon 70-200 2.8 mark II.

Pentax started in 1919, that means he was testing the prototype camera 9 years earlier.
