Couldn't you photograph it, rather than scan it?
Erm... you still end up with the half-toning
(Just the same as scanning!)
Matt
Oh didn't realise that, won't bother trying that then.

Thank you Matt again for your expert assistance, I have had success!
I fiddled with the de Noise filter in PS set at full strength and heh presto, banding has gone, only flipside is photo is a bit soft but with this old photo does not detract from it very much.
Very pleased with the result indeed:
will make sure I note down the settings in notebook for future reference!

ps- thanks Chris, I did think I might have to revert to rephotograping it if I had to.

Yes, I did select grayscale & photo.
My Epson flat bed scanner does not seem to have a descreen option on it.

Looks like I will have to fiddle with it in PS, thanks anyway.

Cheers

I wonder if anyone has had the same experience and if so is there a way around it?

I need to scan an old b&w photo but only have a photocopy (a pretty good copy)
I scanned the photocopy in at 400dpi, enhanced it as required just levels etc and then went to print it, but as I suspected, it has come out just like newsprint lots of horrible banding and dots:

what do you reckon is it a no win situation?

Thanks for your comments Martin. I will have to experiment in photoshop with converting to monochrome. Not something that I have tried so will have to play around and see what I can do. Any suggestions of where I might find advice on converting photos to monochrome?

Steve

Apologies for being tardy but it has been a manic Monday.

OMG! another win, you are all probably get pretty fed up with me!(yes, lenscape it is 5, glad to hear you are keeping tally!)

However, Martin I have to say what an interesting and in depth appraisel you produced and in your second language, what a mammoth task it must have been, I thought my 30 odd entries for MOTION way back was a stiff task, I think you deserve first prize for 'I am the Judge'
It was a great show of images and very enjoyable to scroll thru'

It was taken in Vancouver 2 years ago on 35mm Delta but not with my new 10-20 Sigma, but with the good ol' Pentax 17-28 which now has become redundant in my 35mm over flow bag.
I do enjoy seeing an old photo taken come to life again, thank you for the prestigious award! Now you can have the fun and enter!

So, will have a think and post up the next one some time this evening.

speak soon, Lilly
