Well thank you all and well done for a challenging theme this fortnight, they were all well thought out and amazingly all so different, I was a little surprised & disappointed I didn’t get any hirsute (hairy for Aiki!) chests though! Seriously, this competition is simply the best as it makes as work as photographers, love live the fortnightly !
Galoot: “White Shirt - Caught Out, Again. Just hope the evidence washes away!!! "
So very carefully staged and arranged attention to detail & good exposure which is not easy having a massive amount of white. I liked the sheep cufflink which echoed the lipstick. If I had to find fault it would be the kiss, I think it would have been more believable if it had not been such a perfect pout, a smudged passionate mark on the collar…..would have convinced me more!
MikeW: Miss Munroe leaving ….
Oh Mike how imaginative you can be, I have such pictures in my mind of you struggling with a cardboard cut out and a shirt! Quite convincing reportage angle from below, but the fisheye angle was a little OTT for me, creating massive distortion in the shirt. The inside label was a distraction also, but a great image that makes me smile, deffo not staid!
Darlene: Hey someone had to wear it
This is really cute, excellent exposure and composition, you kept it nice and tight and having a very unfussy black background gives the image impact, well lit and well done!
Giving Tree: After the Party
It is amazing how many ways you can photograph such a simple object and this must be the most relaxed of all. This arrangement had plenty of potential but I found it difficult for my eye to focus happily on any part of the image, it seemed a bit too messy and a little soft in focus.
Dr Mhuni: White shirt in Galle bar
A class image, loved it immediately I saw it, I do love the muted tones and colour. It does work well in mono also, but does not have the same impact especially the shirt which becomes lost (I tried!) If I had to find fault, I would have just clipped a bit more off the bottom, another chair arms worth which would detract the eyes a little less. But, it is a beautiful image Dr Mhuni.
Mecrox: A Quite night in
Well, if this is a quiet night in – what happens when they party! Is this a manikin, that neck looks very smooth?
TBH I am not quite sure what to say other than it is a very nice mono conversion the composition is definitely striking and the selective colouring is a nice touch. I would have cloned out the vertical line under the gas mask or whatever it is. Nice shirt.
Thoughton: Ready to Wear
Another class image, this is so me, just the type of image I love to create with a prime lens, so for a zoom this is top stuff! I really cannot fault it any way, it is beautifully focused with a just the amount of DOF to focus on the main subject the shirt, cracking sharp and perfect subtle lighting. Very nice work.
Karl:
An intriguing self portrait Karl. very Draculian and it drew the Goth of me into the image, but I was finding it hard to focus on your face not too sharp and the lighting flat and lacking in drama which this image should command.
I opened it up and added an adjustment layer LEVELS, pulled in the right and middle sliders and immediately it cast a great dramatic side light. Your dodging on the hand was a bit iffy, sorry!
TonyO White shirt horror
Just love it Tony, what a sense of humour and great to see your skill yet again of thinking from outside the box, very clever and good Photoshop skills of merging the two images convincingly in an ad like manner. However as much as I liked the horror look in the guy’s eyes I didn’t like the lack of detail in those areas and on his collar. The shirt was beautifully exposed though, but a little yellowing.
Judith Ann: T'aint JUST for the office!
I gather this is the old man? What a splendid time you must have had filming this in Miramichi. I like the idea of the triptych the portrait shot is good but the other two images are too similar IMHO to work well together they kind of repeat themselves but flipped. If it had been me I would have done a third outrageous shot with hubby sitting on the bank stripped to the waist with the shirt rolled up by his side, with him gazing outwards…But very well done anyway for an interesting reportage style entry .
Aiki:
Well thank you Aiki for putting in an entry, an original take for sure! I was surprised it was 200iso as it seems rather noisy and there is not so good white speckles bottom right which I would have cloned out. I think the black background is too much for this image perhaps taken outdoors with background thrown out of focus would have worked better?
My results are:
FIRST: Thoughton
SECOND: Dr Mhuni
THIRD: Galoot
HC: Mecrox
Thank you all, over to Thoughton’s next challenge

Lilly,
I've just noticed your stipulation about the max 800 pixels width. I thought we had abandoned this requirement now that images posted on the forum are automatically re-sized. See the comments thread for the last comp.
My shot is ca. 1300 pixels wide - let me know if you consider this a problem and I'll re-post.

Great website and wonderful images of Shetland, I especially liked the performing arts, well documented. Made me feel quite homesick for Shetland, I spent 25 years on the The Old Rock from '76 - 2000 and even got to visit Fair Isle & Foula so very aware you live in a beautiful part of our country.
Do you rememeber Dr Mike Richardson?
Look forward to seeing your images...

Nevertheless, I do usually try and conceal and/or lock away my valuables in a case or suitcase, and use a safe if it's in the room/big enough. Was never a fan of safes at reception - that just seems to draw attention to the fact that you have valuables and leads to the inconvenience of having to use it every time you leave the room.
I have travelled a lot and when in hotels do the same as Dr Mhuni, conceal it away in my locked bag, but, most of the time I like to have my camera gear with me at all times.
The small net book I have now bought for my trip this Dec is now an extra to worry about though. However, will download images to spare passport drive and posting DVDs home along the way. If it does get nicked it will be insured.
There are only so many precautions you can take. Basically I always say to myself before I pack if you cant bear to lose it - don't take it.
Also, don't have posh looking camera bags, they are a magnet, I met a Dutch guy once in the middle of Oz, who produced a Bess Voitlander and a Hassleblad from the most innocuous beat up small day pack!

T...I have a plan in hand that exploits one of my son's shirts which he thoughtfully left here when he moved to London.
