Hi,

I've seen this mentioned a couple of times, including here... and thought this link would be handy..

http://www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk/

I think I'll hopefully get the chance to go, it being only a couple of hours up the M40 for me.. who else is going and when? Perhaps we can gather over a coffee and put a face to the names. Just a thought..

We did this once with a group of us from the BBC science forum, and visited the Dinobirds exhibition at the Science Museum in London.

Jolly good fun it was as well.

Cheers

Hi all,

Yes, I am quite happy with the price..

There's certainly no way I could justify anything up to £200 odd for the 1:1.2, and to be honest, I can't think of a situation where I'd personally need such a fast lens. My main interests are macro, landscape and wanting to start some portraiture. When it gets a bit sunnier I'll be out on the trail of some wildlife..

I now have my portrait lens though.. I just have to get Mrs. Liam to sit still for several hours at a time, while I practice flash setups.

Hi,

I did it again and went ebaying! I think I got a bit of a bargain this time though. An SMC 1:2 50mm for the whopping price of £7.86 (+ recorded postage of £2.50) I just wanted a 50mm lens for portraits. I got nervous for a second or two when the bidding moved from my original £0.99 up to £2.70, but I don't think I did too bad....

This is it here!

What a great idea Don,

I've got an old portable somewhere, but not sure if it's new enough to have the AV connectors.. if not, I'm probably off to a boot sale soon.

In which case Don, we'd both better wait for a growed up to explain it to us..

Having just read through all that, there is a handy chart at the bottom setting out the depth of field at various magnification ratios and apertures, so even if the rest is too complicated to worry about that chart will help with focussing as acurately as possible. At the 5x magnification here, we are looking at a small fraction (I think it's about 0.027mm (27 thousandths of a millimetre)) even at f22.

That's not much to work with..

Hi Mannesty,

I have no idea how to work out the numbers.. (I'll have to go and google it now) but if the coin is about the same size as our penny, and the image is uncropped, then it's something like 26mm width on the sensor, 5mm width on the coin; magnification of 5:1.. ish????

Nope,

you're right Pete..

Sunday mornings aren't the best time to get anything sensible out of me.

Also, unless there's something special somewhere, if you have three different lengths of tube, youi should have a range of 9 combinations.
