Sorry, couldn't resist.

Oh well.. still, if there's a mount converter, it'd still be a fantastic lens!!

Hi,

as you may remember I do a little macro photography occasionally. I use a Soligor 70-210 f1:3.5 (constant) macro lens. I was looking through ebay, and for the first time, that I've seen there is one for sale..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Soligor-70-210mm-f3-5-C-D-Macro-Zoom-Lens_W0QQitemZ2000308...

I hasten to add that this isn't mine.. I'd never sell it. This is just a slightly different design to mine, as there's no macro-lock on this one, but essentially it's the same. It's going for a fiver at the moment, so I thought someone might be interested in it. I don't know the seller, can't vouch for him or the state of the lens, etc...

This is a picture I took earlier in the year, with mine and IIRC a couple of 30mm tubes. It's a standard sized needle and ordiary sewing cotton.. full frame! (weird colours courtesy of using a CD as the background.. handy hint #35449)

Not that bad really, and you can while away the winter evenings taking excruciatingly close-up piccys of all those little things around the house. I'll get around to doing some more soon. I'll see how close I can get to an insect's eyes next.. I may just get them both in frame..

I can't tell for sure from the ebay photos, but it looks as though the rear element doesn't protrude as far as mine, which in my case means it won't actually fit the DL body, but does fit the ME. I use it exclusively for macro work and so always have tubes and/or TCs fitted, so that doesn't matter anyway.

Another example here..

Anyway, thought you might be interested.

Hi all,

I just went to check to see if MS had updated their camera compatibility range for the Windows Explorer RAW viewer so that us Pentax types could use it. Surprised to find they hadn't..

I did find this however..

http://www.dpmagic.com/products.html

and the community version, which is free, does indeed do what the MS viewer can't. Now when I open explorer my RAW images are thumbnailed as well. According to the list, the D, DL and DS are covered, along with a couple of the optios. It also opens thumbnail images for the DNG format, which I know some of you use. It does however only provide the thumbnail. In order to open it up you still need to use a RAW imaging program.. but then you'll have one of those anyway, and you can double click the TN to open the program straight from the RAW file.

Simply install and restart at the prompt. It works as an extension of Windows, so there's no file allocation etc. necessary..

Just thought I'd mention it.

Cheers

Hi all,

There have been a couple of recent threads, this one..

https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2875

and..

https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2845

for instance, about Zigviews and various other bits of kit to remotely see through the viewfinder.

Well, do you know what, I had an idea.. (it happens)

I got my no-name P&S, and stuck the lens right over the eyepiece of the DL. You'll never guess.. I could see the view through the lens on the preview screen. Admittedly the image was smaller than the lcd itself, but certainly clear enough to compose a shot, although you'd never have enough info for anything but auto-focus. The other thing is that you can plug a P&S into a monitor or TV and get real-time preview, so ideal for studio set ups where you might otherwise need to contort yourself to see the image.. shooting from above for instance.

What I now need is a broken P&S with a working screen and sensor, so I can build a swiveling/angled screen off of the sensor. Use an old ME eye-cup, as they're metal clipped and about a quid, and I have a Zigview-esque device for a damn site less than £170. I can get a little P&S for a few quid on Ebay, but if it's working, I'd never be able to chop it up (I'm like that), so I'll have to ask around.. here's a good place to start.

Anyone got a broken P&S they could donate to a project, or even an old mobile picture phone?

For my part, I'll experiment and build a prototype, and publish all the plans in full here, gratis.. so you can all build one, if you want.

Sounds like a plan non?

Cheers

Hi Panoz, and welcome to the Pentax user forum.

This is an enthusiast's forum, and not an official Pentax site. However, we will do our best to help out if we can. Sadly, from what I can see, there are no firmware updates for the S6 currently available.

Are you having a specific problem? If so, there are plenty of members here who may be able to help.

Cheers, and welcome again..

Hi,

the SLIK AF2100 head is an upright pistol grip. I've been trying to get one cheap via ebay for a couple of weeks, but they generally end up around £40-60.

Here's a link to one..

so you can have a look

Hi all,

anyone know much about these? There are a couple going cheap (compared to retail) on ebay, and with the nights drawing in, I thought I might have a bash at macro with one of these. My main lens for macro has a 62mm thread. Will I lose much of the image coming down. I can't find out exactly what thread the flash has.

Cheers

Thanks Mike,

until I saw it, I thought that Cormorants were black, but they are actually quite colourful, with the browns and oranges in the plumage..

Cheers
