Try black and white. This is a picture that depends on shapes.

Hi George,
thanks for the tip. Does this work better? I started from scratch and adjusted the contrast to a level where the spider isn't quiet as obvious, by losing some of the detail on the body, so I'm hoping at first glance, a first time viewer will need to double take.. sort of?? I'll have to look for him again, and see if I can improve the pose! The legs at 3 and 9 o'clock would have made a better image if ther had been a bit more separation between leg and shadow, making all seven resemble the petal shape, I think.

Cheers

I think you are right to lose body detail, and cropping tighter might be a good idea, too.

I took this just as I was on my way out last night. Saw the spider on the wall and grabbed the camera. I like the effect of the shadows of the legs making them look a little like petals.. (squint for full effect ) it also helped that the poor thing only had seven legs, making it resemble a flower much more than if it had had the full compliment..

Arty type stuff isn't usually my thing, but I like it in spite of that..
