Thanks Tel..

It was a nice day but hazy, which helped to keep the focus closer to home, rather than on the horizon.. 20/20 hind sight is a wonderful thing..

Cheers

Hi Don..

yeah I know.. but I'd much rather be told if they're not up to scratch, that find out at a later date..

Hi Kris,

if you're going to print B&W properly you still need coloured inks to get proper results. You get are far truer rendition of black called rich black, which uses in some cases only 25% black ink.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_black

Black ink on it's own is fine for printing text, but if you want mono to stand out, get a good colour printer..

Hope that helps,

Cheers

Hi Beaky,

I like #2.. just to be different.

I'd like to see it in mono, with little or no noise reduction. BTW, for reducing noise if needed, try Neat Image..

You may notice the name of someone calling himself Matt Page there.. our very own Mattmatic..

That's probably a fair recomendation.

Hi,

I haven't switched my printer on in probably 2 years..

I don't get a huge amount printed admittedly, but I can't fault Bonusprint.. no, don't laugh.

Upload online, choose size paper etc. and a couple of days later they turn up in an armour plated cardboard envelope. They're developed onto photographic paper, and I get 12x8s for around a quid a go. The quality is excellent, and exactly what I sent colour wise. I haven't got as far as colour profiles, but I get what I send.. so by luck or there judgement it works.

Matt, as you know about these things, perhaps you'd like to send an image on to them for printing, and check it side by side with a profiled one you already have, just to see if they are as good as I think, or it's just my eyes.. They're not as young as they used to be.

Download the little app, and fill in the details. It transmits as HTTPS for card details.

Thanks..

it was at Derwent Water in the Lake District two weeks ago.

I only took 1300 photos, so a quiet week..

I'll almost certainly post some more, but I'm off to Weymouth for a long weekend tomorrow.. with the camera obviously..

Cheers

Hi all,

thought I'd get back into it a bit..

I knew this existed, but haven't got around to downloading it 'til yesterday.

http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable

You download it to your PC, install it direct to a USB drive, and away you go. It actually does work exactly as it says on the tin. It runs as fast as my local copy does, if very slightly slower saving your finished article back to the stick (to be expected anyway).

This means that if you need to work on your images, but don't have the time at home, you can plug it into your work machine, (or your guest's machine, if the conversation dries up..) and PP any images that you've also pre-loaded onto it. It runs entirely from the USB stick, so nothing gets left on the host machine, and it saves you having to explain why there are unauthorised apps on your work machine..

If you already use GIMP, then you won't notice any difference in it at all. If you don't then it's always handy if you're away from home. It only needs 60 odd Mb to run, and space for the photos of course.

Hope that helps,

Cheers

Hi all,

just thought I'd put in an appearance. Been a while hasn't it. Well, a quick precis goes like so. In late March my Mum went into hospital, and apart from a couple of days back home in April, she never left, and sadly we lost her on 15th of July, 10 days after her 68th birthday. As you can probably imagine, with her being in Wallsgrave Hospital in Coventry, and me being some 90 miles south, I spent a fair bit of my weekends on the M40 back and forth.

Apart from that, I didn't really feel in the mood to take the camera out. I did take a load of photos in the Lake District, where we spent a week, between her birthday, and when she passed away.. about a month sooner than the estimated time.. and I've sort of had a quick glance at the first 100 or so, but that's it. We're still very much in the process of dealing with the estate, but I should eventually get back to posting at my usual rate in the near future. This Sunday for instance will be the first Sunday in around 4 1/2 months, that I'll not be at least 75 miles north of here.. my family's base of operations being about 15 miles south of the hospital.

Just thought I'd keep you all up to date..

Cheers, and speak to you soon
