Never leave cameras in a hot car, it's asking for problems and they could get stolen as well.
I would check the lens is fitted firmly, recharge the battery and make sure the camera is not in playback mode. Check the AF setting isn't locking the shutter because you're not in focus. Perhaps reset the defaults to make sure nothing has been set oddly for you. Is the lens set on "A"?

I just bought a Macro/ and a 300mm. Now I'm out of business.
I can't afford another camera! If it requires a rebuild $$$$$??

Hi Larry, you can also use a remote release for Canons (sorry wash my mouth out with soap!) on you camera. Look for one that is Canon RS-60E3 compatible. I have a generic one made by JJC which cost me 12 euros.
I got this as the IR remote only works from the front on the Ist D series. They solved that one on the K10D so it also works from the back.
I know you from DPF (but I use another name there )!

Hi Larry and welcome.
The DSLRs need an electronic cable release that is obtainable through your dealer.
The Power Zoom feature is not supported by your camera so is defunct. You can use manual zooming in the usual way. The seitch you mention might have something to do with the power zoom auto size tracking feature. I'm not sure about that one.
In any event, use it as a normal manual zoom and you should be fine. AF should work in the usual way.

I have no instructions for a tele 100-300 Power Zoom I bought it used. There is a switch on the barrel P A > AS. And on the barrel is a ring I push to activate the focus/power, can I damage it if not used properly?
Thanks from Toronto Can.

I'm so glad we have this form. Thankyou, for your prompt response. All is well. The lens wasn't set on "A" properly. I'm up and running. Thanks again, now maybe I can get some sleep! Thanks again. Good night.

I very well know that awful sinking feeling you get when something expensive that's also your pride and joy stops working... and you suspect it's cos of something dumb you've done.
Most of us have been there... and re your , most of us have also learned that it's MUCH, MUCH better to briefly feel a bit foolish over missing some minor thing, than be stuck with an expensive repair and lengthy downtime.
