Old ME Supers would not be able to operate modern lenses, and most modern lenses are much better than almost all lenses from the ME Super era.

I can't understand this desire to turn the clock back.

OMG! Modern lenses are better than the ME super era lenses??? Surely you jest? Modern lenses are better if you want auto focus and have a bottomless pocket, but I don't think I have a better set of lenses than those I have kept from my ME Super. I use my f1.7 50mm 'manual everything' lens more than any other and it produces wonderful results. I recently bought a Pentax M 120mm lens from ebay for £60 which does amazing portraits. I could go on.

Perhaps you should pick up your old ME Super and try it again. There is a reason that they were such successful cameras for so many years. I love the convenience of digital, but I miss the wonderful full frame of view and simplicity of my ME Super. If Pentax could make a 'specialist' camera that was digital but worked as manually and simply as that I would buy it ... if I could afford it! If I am honest I flick my camera between aperture priority with my 18-35mm kit lens and manual with all my other lenses. I'd be happy to throw all the other dial settings away.

You are probably asking what is tempting me to get a K10D (which I have just ordered from Dixons of all places .... 5% discount on everything over £399 with the code 'GIMME5'). It's mostly the nicely sealed body, which will hopefully stand up to the trekking I'm going to do in NZ, and the extra stop or two that I might be able to get with a 50mm or 28mm manual lens ... I see lots of portraits around the dinner table at family gatherings without the need to ever think about flash!

Sorry for the rant!

Even on the wide angle end? If that's the case I might just have to get myself an old body that can use my digital lenses. It would be fun to take some ultra ultra wide angle shots!!

I don't think it would ... those lenses are perfected fro the 1.5 crop.

Personally I'd be over the moon if Pentax just but digital backs into old ME Supers!

Thanks. I'll be buying one before Xmas then so I have time to learn to use it properly!

Thanks everyone. If the new Pentax model is going to be a lot more expensive, the only thing that might tempt me would be a full frame sensor in it ... and considering Pentax's commitment to their special digital lenses, this seems pretty unlikely right??

Thanks. That's the thing though. I reckon it's going to take me a month or so to get the k10D set up the way I like it. The thing is ... what rumours have people heard ... is there likely to be a newer model or price cuts in the next 4 months??

I'm off to New Zealand for a 'holiday of a lifetime' next Easter and I'm wondering whether to buy a K10D now or wait until Feb or March in case there is either a significant price drop or a new model to tempt me. I currently have a ist DS and all the lenses I need, so it's really just the body upgrade I'd be looking to do. Any thoughts?

I just wanted to share my excitement at having become the proud owner of a 31mm ltd lens. It really does appear to do magic.
