so to close this discussion - in the end I got nice used K-5IIs from fellow member here. Haven't got enough time to play with it yet to make any assesment, but first observations are:
- Yes it bit sharper, not much but it is noticeable when ones takes photos with tiny detailed things like leaves on tree or conifers. There's definitely bit more detail in it....akthough I have yet to see what would be difference in print.
- Interesting thing is that it seems also to produce slightly higher contrast....at the same settings , subject, same lens the raws from IIs had bit darker richer colours than those of original k5....this may be coincidence, tiny change of light maybe - but there's very little difference there.
- AF is better, less hesitant at low light....when there's enough light I could't really see difference between both cameras
...and that's moreless it in regards to differences between both, the difference seem little, but enough for me to prefer k5IIs. Was it worth? I don't know, maybe bigger prints will answer that question. Looking forward to take some landscape photos with K5iis. And I got to find new home for my trusty K5, can't afford to keep both

Lenny - I understand, no bother ....i think for that price you'll sell that Takumar easily
I still have K85/1.8 ...and still like it a lot, although I don't use it as much...the thing is that Takumar will suit my lens setup as it shares 58mm filter thread with the rest of my lenses....
Good luck with the sale ....it's quite rare to see these 85mm Takumars for sale here.....guess, it won't be long till somebody grabs it

funny, now being away from UK for few years I am thinking - 'good old royalmail' when i tried to send something via local slovakian post office.
Here it is plenty of paperwork, filling forms, strange limitations on insurance of parcel, you are asked to buy prescribed cardboard box for parcels so they can insure it etc. It is expensive here as well and slow. In UK I could pack things in bin bag if i wanted, slap an address on top and send it fully insured without any paperwork .......

4kg is not really that much - i'll pack one K5 with 2 spare bateries, 4 lenses - SMC 20/4, FA31, DA*55 (all share same filter) and SMC 85/1.8 for longer reach. Then I bring BIC travel tripod and NodalNinja3 pano head....and 5 filters ....and that's it, This alone weights 4 kg in total and that's moreless my photogear limit - as I need to pack lightweight tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, some food and some clothes as well. To keep that backapack reasonably light will be quite challenging task, really

Zoom advice si interesting, nowadays only zoom I have is DA17-70 but that's very moody when it comes to focusing, so I don't use it that much. I am not sure about taking it....

Mag07 .....good point with longer focal lenghts being more useful when stitching. Will consider maybe not selling my FA135 until that trip....i don't know yet.

Galoot - nice photos from car....I've been to Torridon once, but it was all misty and raining hopefully I'll have more luck this time. Definitely this is a challenge to plan trip to Scotland with notorious british weather in mind.

JohnRiley - definitely, while I enjoy driving through scenic landscapes, you gotta really use your feet to find some more stunning scenery. Only problem I have to solve....where I am going to park a car for three or four days?

sportyman, johnriley......with regards to viewing distance, there's this strange thing. When i look at downsized photos (in books) from large format or medium format cameras, i notice sort of texture richness and clarity, even though the photos are downsized significantly. Maybe I am fooling myself - but i wonder if the quality to capture slightly more detail will be presented also in small prints, and looking at this photos it seems to be the case.....i don't plan to print larger than a3 photos really.
Anyway I already purchased k5IIs from fellow pentaxuser member, so it's too late for me now
