I didn't get to Sintra Jon. We liked Lisbon so much that we decided to save things to do next time.

Just returned from a week in Lisbon, thought I'd share the five best with you for C&C. All shot with my trusty K20d.

1. Stock 18-55mm WR, 15sec. Beach at Costa Caparica. This was an attempt at a medium length exposure whilst resting the camera on a railing during dinner (much to the other halves chagrin). The wind picked up and the railing bobbed vigorously towards the end of the exposure.

2. Stock 18-55mm WR, 1/250. Taken from a moving open top bus whilst travelling through the area used for Lisbon's Expo 98. The area now is used for conferencing, sports events, live music etc.

3. Stock 18-55mm WR, 1/250. Lisbon is full of three things - Dog *ahem* leavings, grafitti and narrow, cobbled stone streets. Two are included in this shot.

4. 50mm f1.8, 1/125. Another of those cobbled streets I mentioned.

5. 50mm f1.8, 1/1000. Lisbon's architecture is stunning. Should I have cropped out the sky totally?

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the feedback. My rambling blurb was trying to suggest that I now know, having been on this site for so long without really making any impact on it, that I shouldn't be afraid. The feedback here is always honest and fair - who can ask for more.

David -

My only comment is on 2 and 3, the shadows need some detail bringing back, you should learn how to do this and your images will improve!
I'll have a crack at that when I get home tonight, many thanks!

Andrew - My sincere thanks for correcting the verticals, I actually thought I had (using LR5.4) but after comparing mine and yours I can now see what they should look like - back to the drawing board there.

Don - Thanks very much.

Carl - The beauty of this whole site, I actually prefer Andrew's version! I didn't even see the drainpipe until you mentioned it, and now I can't see anything else. I'll have a crack at cloning it tonight too, see if I can work that out. You are 100% right, sharing is good for me!

Evening.

Been generally too scared of negative feedback to ever post any of my photo's on here. Feel silly even thinking it, everyone here is always fair with their comments, both positive and negative, so what am I worried about? My four best shots from a weekend excursion to the rather lovely Winchester Cathedral. Minor Lightroom corrections made, including fixing the verticals on 2 & 3. All shot with a K20d, handheld. C&C desired, best way to improve right?

1. Stock 18-55 @ 18mm.

To me it looks fine, but if there is a slight colour cast, and I say again I cannot see it, it could be due to mixed lighting sources (not sauces as those writing above would have us believe!)
The only oddity with the picture I'd query is why you dialled in half a stop under exposure as when shooting with backlight you'd normally need to dial in more exposure to compensate. That has made the subject slightly dark and maybe what you're seeing.

John K (formerly of Hainault until the year 2000 - welcome to the forum by the way.)
Thanks for your input John, my brother (and the nephews photographed) actually live in Hainault. Small world, hey? I'm a massive novice when it comes to shooting, I would suggest that the dialing in of under exposure was either a) me messing about, or b) left over from last time I shot. Appreciate your advice on shooting with backlight, this is what I'm here for.

Petro / John / Andrew the staining (this seems the best word for it) appeared on a few photographs taken in a similar position, having noted Petro's comments about the spacing with the blinds I think I agree and this makes sense.

Thanks for everyones input, loving the forum!

Great shots Simon, especially the second.

Thanks Andrew & Jak for the brightness suggestion. I have turned my monitors brightness all the way down and to me it is still just as visible. Perhaps I'm being overly critical.

Beneath my grandmothers chin, on the orange fold of the LHS nephew's tshirt left of the letter G and left of the third button down on the RHS nephew's tshirt there is a blue-ish hue. Would the blinds being open behind cause any kind of issue?

Thanks,

Lewis
