Many thanks - the update has now worked. I didn't have a clue what a 'root directory' was and had put the update software into the DCIM Directory!!

I never stop learning, and never will, about computers!

Thanks again.

There's a firmware update for the K7 (v 1.01) and I've downloaded the 'BIN' file and the Readme text to my desktop and it all seems straightforward except the part that says "Copy the above Firmware file [fwdc204b.bin] to the root directory in the SD/SDHC card".

Where is the root directory for the card?? (I am using a 2GB card - more than enough and I've formatted it as per the Readme text).

Help!!

Oh dear Mike....I'm not too sure. I've googled Selfridges Birmingham and there are a few night shots and I think there must be some form of lighting on the building at night - sorry to be a bit vague.

Here's a photo I took very early on Saturday - Selfridges catching the rising sun - I used Raw (PEF) and used the auto setting - otherwise no adjustments. Looks totally different to your shot with the lensbaby!! I used the long end of my 18-250 lens and used -2 EV. Can't make up my mind about it!!

Hi Mike and Paul

As regards sunrise the view I got was from above where the bus stops are at one side of the Bullring - can't remember the street name but looking at my A-Z it could have been around Edgbaston St or St Martin's Queensway - and guess what - you have to look East!! When I get back to Brum centre I'll check out the exact location.

Hindsight is wonderful - but I intend revisiting the Reinforcing/Church to see if I can make a better/more interesting photo - for me it has plenty of potential. Sunrise is no good - sun in wrong direction - will check for a low evening sun soon. Thanks for your comments.

Cheers

Hi Hythloday..in fact I had already downloaded ACR v. 5.4 - see my first post on this thread. I've now done some 'lateral' (sort of) thinking and have managed to solve the problem.

The error message referred to 'win64' which was a folder in the "Programs/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/Plug-Ins/File Format" folder. It had another copy of Camera Raw 8bi and as it was in a folder called 'Win64' I assumed this was for 64 bit processors - mine is 32 bit.

Being cautious I did not delete this folder but dragged it to the desk top and then started Elements

a) from the short-cut on my desktop
b) Opening a RAW photo via Elements
c) Going to 'My Photos' on the desktop and opening a photo with Elements.

All worked perfectly and the error message does not appear.

So I'm pleased on 2 counts. I've solved the problem and my old btain cells still work (sometimes).

Cheers

You are right KG. Once satisfied there is a genuine claim the Insurer would either repair the camera - assume not viable here because of the damage, replace the camera and if the nearest replacement is the K20d they should offer this, or give the cash equivalent.

As for increasing the premium - unlikely but if they do then the increase will be far less than the value of the claim. Say your House contents premium is £300 - even if they increase it by 20% that's only £60 extra - and if you have a combined building and contents insurance they can't increase the premium on the buildings section - only the contents.

By the way Nigel - I assume you do have cover for personal possessions outside the house?

Hope that helps.

Well - yes - Travel Policies are useless for photographic equipment - they have such low limits.

Do you have any home contents cover which may include personal possessions taken out of the house and can include cover on holiday? The limits here per item are usually much higher, typically £1,000 or more.

If not I'm afraid you're stuck - perhaps you should consider home contents cover and make sure this includes your possessions away from your home.

Alternatively there are specialist camera equipment insures some advertising in Pentax User - see Insurance link.

Mike - I was told the whole of the Bullring area was private property but I did not see any signs to that effect. Where it starts/finishes goodness only knows. Luckily by then there was enough light so that use of the monoped was not essential. Great photo of yours - I still have to process mine from Raw.

Pauly - you are right - but the 'jobsworth' was young and very pleasant about it and seemed embarrassed with what he was telling me so I gave up!!

I did process a couple and here is an odd one - what's the opinion of it? Comments would be welcome. Taken from the top of the Snowhill car park and looking at a church through reinforcing rods at the top of a new building waiting for concrete!

That sounds very low in this day and age - are you talking about a Travel Policy or your House Contents Policy (or both??)?
