Pic does have a certain reality to it, I'm hoping!
I'm hoping it plays well with my DA*300 obviating the need for the also vapour ware 135-380, at least we have a picture of a convertor...

David Storm has very kindly uploaded some RAW files for me to play with. Unfortunately the fan on my computer is playing up again and it gets a bit warm when I do too much processing....I'm going to the UK next week and have ordered a new fan, so will finish the experiment then.

However, I have processed three files taken at ISO 6400, -2ev, all of the same scene with the same lens. It's surprised me: the K3 does indeed have more noise, negligibly, but it's very fine-grained, and after a bit of processing there is far more detail than in the K5 and K5iis shots. If I try and get rid of all the noise in the K3 file, there's not much to choose between the three cameras. However, with these ISO 6400 images processed to the point that I think they look good at 100%, and once all the images are resized to a size midway between the K3 and K5 file sizes, the K3 produces the best images imo (significantly so), with the most detail and least noise.

I'll update this for those who are interested once I've processed all the files.

As for my choice of what camera to buy next (I was planning to next week), Ricoh have thrown a spanner in the works as it seems there's some new models coming out.
Pretty much as I see it, in real use the K3 is better and not just by a bit but you need to turn off the defaults use RAW etc. I suppose some would argue that you have to "Fiddle" to get the best out of it but regardless it is better.
It's stopped me wanting a K5II (of any version) as a second body and got me looking fwd to a K60, if indeed it's real...
People need to Pony up and buy a K3, test it in the real world, I'm loving mine!
I wish I could afford two like Fletcher8!

I'm sorry but I wasn't impressed. Have I missed something ?
You're probably too busy pixel peeping

Only kidding, but although it's late for me and I'm tired so haven't read all the text ( and it seems a google translation at any rate ) , the pictures themselves certainly have some personality, which I can only respect.

They have some unusual bokeh too.

Such a refreshing change from the usual obsessive "sharpness" and "resolution at all costs" ethos you see from too many photographer who offer up stale results because they are too obsessed with technical perfection, to the cost of image content.

what's telling is the actual image content of this guy's test images are pretty boring, but they still look nice becuase of the charisma of his DIY lens tweaking.

thought you'd like it Smeggy!
Interesting stuff, I'd loke to get into mount conversation s for contax kit etc but thats as fsrxas my experience and expertise would take me I'm afraid! Im full of admiration for people who do stuff like this and enjoy reading it very much...

Imagine what results he would get if he took the lenses out and took some pics with a stronger subject. Highly impressed.

It's an inspiration to get more creative and focus on the art instead of heading towards a vortex of lens and sensor perfection.

Nice find Jules.

I did have one mischievous thought though. I'd hate to see what happens when Miggo is unfurled as shown and the camera has worked loose.....
Makes the blood run cold, doesn't it

I think I'd do a fair bit of thorough tugging and stretching over a nice soft surface before I trusted it.
Fnarrr!

It looks like it could be a good product but I don't think it's aimed at us traditional pentaxians, maybe the youngblood Q7/K-01 users?
Looks like it's aimed at the CSC weilding crowd and at the risk of not being PC Mums who'll chuck their camera in their humungous handbag with all the other bits and peices of crap they carry in order to break their shoulders befroe they reach retirement age, never looked in there, wouldn't like to...

Well they made the 36Mp one in the D800 then didn't use it for two years, so it could have been that one?
Dunno Steve, I think you're right that there is a good deal of favouritism/collusion that goes on in the Photo industry, and Sony play very dirty, in fact dirtier than any.
Apparently it's the major reason behind Tamron's intransigence on Lenses for Pentax, Sony's 11% share in the boardroom that is...
Got a big stake in Olympus too, and guess who's sensors they are using for the foreseeable future...Yep...
Allegedly the Fuji X-trans is a doctored (Altered Filtering) Sony 16Mp, so it'll be interesting to see where they go next...

The HD Pentax-DA 135-380mm f/4-5.6 ED [IF] DC WR is what I have been waiting for. I was hoping for 400mm at the long end, but you can't have everything. If the IQ is there then I will most probably sell the 55 - 300

DA 16-50,DA 50-135,DA 135-380, though not a lightweight combination would be my go to kit.

Regards - Steve
Resigned to the extra weight but I have to agree it'll be my "Go To" kit too with my Siggy 8-16 thrown in there as well. I'm hoping that the Pentax gods smile and in a departure to normal practice that an extra 80mm isn't that much, and it doesn't need to be built from unobtainium alloy just to stay within alignment...
Ah Well...

Not really fair to compare SLT's to DSLR's, lets go back to the much vaunted 16Mp Sensor we all know and love...
More than anything so that we can compare apples to kind of apples...

http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Pentax-K-5-IIs-versus-Sony-S...

Sony SLT'S vs Sony DSLR
http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-SLT-Alpha-57-versus-Son...

And lastly DSLR's similar (Not exactly the same) Sensors...
http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Pentax-K-5-IIs-versus-Nikon-...

Conclusion Sony SLT's are at a disadvantage in comparison to DSLR's and secondly Sony does a worse job with it's own sensors than anyone else! (Yes I know the D7100 is a Toshi!)
Remember this is only SLT's Vs DSLR...
