I think the logic was that they were comparing the kit lens options, the 17-70mm isn't one of them.
Yes that was my thinking too John but my feeling is that this is the 17-70's replacement, I'd like to see a test run between the two to see if it's worth keeping mine against this one, I nearly pulled the trigger last week when it was £441 on Amazon, luckily the next day it went back up to over £500, so my Credit card sweated for nought

I have the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5, love the macro and like the aperture, but don't particularly like the bokeh or the fact that it is not weather sealed. The last one has been bugging more lately.
The 18-135mm seems like the way to go for my needs, but this might even be better. More tele and wide than the Sigma and with WR.
Unfortunately its new, so too expensive.
I agree edumad! About 100-150 Euro's too much, currently it is £499 (680 Euro) if it was £399 (543 Euro) over here, I'd be all over one, as it is, it's got me looking at slowly picking up limiteds (AGAIN!:shock for something sharp in the Pentax standard range because the 16-50 F2.8 and the 18-135 just don't cut the mustard, my 17-70 F4 is ok but only ok. My 12-24 and 60-250mm F4's are better right across the frame than any of the Pentax standard zooms, to get something really sharp, I've got to by a Ltd or start saving for the 16-85...
The consolation may be that if it's half as good as the Nikon one it'll be superb!
So it indeed may just be worth the scheckles but £500 (680 Euro) is tooo much for a standard F5.6 zoom...
I meant to add, third party lens manufacturers need no longer apply
They won't support my chosen brand properly, so I won't buy any of their lenses...

You can use a remote release to control a Camel Algi? To do what? The mind boggles!

It's all a bit of fun, it reminds me of the excitement of seeing the new Top 50 every week, just wanting the things I liked to do well in the charts. But we don't buy things because they are doing well do we? We buy them because they fulfil a function, apart from the collectors maybe who might like to have every model or for that matter every No 1 record.

The CSC market may well be growing, but the sales overall are relatively low compared to the DSLR market. The money is in actually making money, that is, profit. So it can even be better to sell less, providing the margin is right. There are so many things we don't know about all of this that it makes the statistics offered from time to time almost meaningless. Fun remains.
Agree John, thats where Ricoh/Pentax win, they seem to be able to turn a profit in making relatively few Cameras, something that the bigger companies can't seem to do, Ricoh's operation must be very streamlined in compariason, Sony and Nikon are struggling...
Canon just seems to be as robust as ever. On one hand, Olympus,Panasonic/Sony have enormous funding/manufacturing in place for EVF and thats why they promote them as being the future, the Oddball is Fuji. I assume the Fuji EVF in the X-T1 (best EVF of the lot IMHO) is a Sony product (Without getting the screwdriver out it's hard to really know!) but with Proper glass optics in their too, must be quite pricey to make. I still feel CsC's are really only truly profitable for the Likes of Canon/Nikon/Ricoh-Pentax, if the EVF Costs less than the OVF. Since they all have money sunk into OVF, I would hazard that for them it's still cheaper to manufacture/Have them manufactured than it is to buy an EVF in, more than likely from Sony...

It has Focus Peaking, as well as some other interesting Focus features in live view. Page 57 of the manual, there was plenty of chatter on the US site about it not being in there, pleased to see it is...

I live in Australia's northern tropics and the sun here is bright and harsh.
I have an older camcorder with an EVF bought precisely because of the sun. Works exactly as needed.
Had some problems with my X-T1 Steve but then Fuji brought out a new eyecup that completely took away the problem, I don't think everybody presses their eye to the viewfinder properly?

Whatever happened to poor old Sony is they became the market leaders of mirrorless cameras, as shown further down the article. Do they even still make SLRs?
Exactly.

What happened to Sony is they started selling a whole heap of cameras.

I don't see much in here that suggest Ricoh is big? They are the long distant third in a race with realistically only 3 competitors. Who else makes DSLRs these days?
They then don't rate a mention in any of the other categories.
I think Ricoh are producing some cool cameras for their supporters these days. I just think it would pay to be clear that the number is hardly growing dramatically though, regardless of the accuracies or not of this small market summary.
You forgot the "ish" Richard , just reporting stuff I find in my late night internet trawls, while I'm waitin for my slooow PC to finish processing my captures...

Yeah likewise but everytime I start to hear someone go on about Airy discs my eyes just glaze over, I just get bored listening to it, which is why I liked this video so much, he doesn't labour it...
