Fritzthedog has made some very common sense and articulate statements.
I will certainly not rush out and buy the next generation Pentax DSLR, if there is one.
Just because it's better specified doesn't mean I'll necessarily take better images with it.
Eventually I see the digital camera market going the same way as the home computer/laptop.
Loads of fast paced developments between the various manufacturers and the release of a new model every day.
That seems to have largely slowed right down now.
I'm typing this on a four year old iMac which still produces superb images via photoshop and a five year old printer.
Am I rushing out to replace then anytime soon? No. They still produce excellent quality images and I have scrutinised images I've taken and printed out on the latest 'faster than light more processing power than a nuclear submarine's computers' Mac Pro and the very latest Epson wide format printers and I genuinely cannot see such a huge difference that I would need to spend 6-8£K.
I do sometimes hanker after the days of yore when my SLR's lasted forever,a new model was often only every five years or so, and yes John R, I too couldn't afford or justify spending the extra tenner to have the 'Black' version of
my chosen SLR.
Strangely enough when I'm out using the Pentax DSLR's I often get pitying looks from Canikon owners.
But hey, when the Mamiya RZ or the 'Blad come out and rolls of film are being used everyone wants to be my friend.
I like my K5, I got it new for a stupid bargain price under £700, I'll keep it whatever happens now. It's Part of what makes me like the Limited version, a bit of a celebration of something truly different and an exceptional Camera to boot...
12-18 month cycles don't give you enough time to learn the Camera properly, IMHO.

I'd like to think I'll feel the same way but...
I know what I'm like!
I love the image quality of the K5, it will be hard to replicate but if they simply used the newer 16Mp sensor bingo!
Again
We'll see...

I like the idea of a Silver K5, very reminiscent of the limited Lx, which I thought was lovely, has no practical use as John Alludes (Black works for me too)but pretty none the less...

Industry wide Matt, bit more openess would be good but companies fall for one bad product these days...

Thanks, updated my k5, seems a biggish download just to improve writing reliability for SDXC? No conspiracy, just sayin...

Well John the Silver Edition usually means the end of the line, well in a few months anyway.
As an aside if I may? Any other bodies managed two silver editions? It surely can't go for three?
Can it?

Hmm, just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid, too much crossover with the 1Dx but then a different sensor??? (Video related?) Frame rate is quite high which will canabalise some 1 series sales too and it's 600 quid more expensive than the Nikon which has too many pixels to hold steady anyway, niether work for me, you can keep boat anchors from now on...

I changed my Sig pic because I realised that having the cat on it and the fours comment made it look too much like yours Mike, and I don't want done for cybrstalking

Had an A77 which is what brought me back to wanting the K5 again.
Pentax will have to work very hard to get the image quality right if they indeed choose to use that sensor. I think ALLUDED TO T WHEN frst came back last month. I owned a Canon 7D Which I just couln't get away with then a Nion D7000 which trew muck allover the Sensor but otherwise the image quality was very similar to the k5 (Would be though) now the Canon 7D has a gritty sensor that is masked by some quite clever/advanced processing but nonetheless gritty The A77 is a gritty Sensor which isn't at all, there is gritty noise even at ISO 100 and gets worse from there, the performance drops off a cliff at ISO 1600, in truth I've never shot anything above that but if Pentax are going to offer only one flagship (?) as opposed to the big three giving FF/Sports and crop bodies it will have to be much better than the A77 to get my money...

I think thats the point really, if you think you need them and feel happier that way bung them on and forget em, the filter thing is a discussion that will get old and grow a beard. Just like the orginal point to this thread that was I seem to remember (In B+W not the filters!:wink 17-70 vs 16-50, there will always be two sides and they'll never fully agree...
