They probably did but not any longer, I was sponsored ny Nikon for a while when I used to shoot Motorbike Racing and had a very public falling out with them but continued to buy their cameras out of some stupid misguided loyalty. Pretty soon after they started treating me like a total pleb, so I tried Canon, then Sony with results from customer service being little better, that's what started the journey. The only one I've ever felt comfortable with has been Pentax and for lenses Sigma, Sigma especially seem to be willing to go to great lengths to make customers happy. The rest except those which I've never tried can go fall down a very large hole, for all I care, I'm not allowed to put my feelings into the words I'd like to here.
Along the way I've also had a very public and ongoing nervous breakdown, which has not helped my life at all! I spend most days feeling like your signature Pic. New Camera's used to bring me new hope, which is why I purchased them, now I'm getting better and feel confident enough of the Future of the K mount and myself to stay with a brand for the long run...
Its obviously fun for you to poke fun at me for this, I don't understand it but enjoy it anyway...

Are you like this with everything techy or is it just cameras?
Nope! Just Camera's!

I've nailed my colours back to the Pentax mast and fully intend to stay here! I will get a K3 but have been frightened by recent unreliable purchases from Nikon, Fuji, Canon and indeed Pentax, and will keep my K5IIs as a back up until I replace the K3 with a K1 and the K3 becomes backup!

With technology advancing now so quickly and the incorporation of very high spec features into more and more bodies
It does seem to be only Pentax who incorporate traditional enthusiast 'hardware' features into their cheaper cameras though (twin dials, on body controls, WR, big bright viewfinder etc)... The only thing which *for me* I feel is slightly lacking compared to my K7/K10 is the top LCD, but I got over that one pretty fast. Some of the buttons are dual operation, which means (for example) you can't use the AF button to focus and AE lock at the same time, but... meh.
That does it for me, look at that mode dial! K30 is not entry level it's advanced user interface but in a cheaper body and (Barely) less specified than the K5, just as capable and a teeny bit sharper straight out of the camera due to it's lighter AA filter. Each manufacturers idea of this corollarial and theorematic reasoning, is different, and all to a price, depending on what they prioritise where, a little form Column A and a little form Column B.
Rear LCD's are a good indication, if you look at the Nikon range it's much clearer there who each Camera model is aimed at but they make a big play of instructional features in the display modes there, which after a time are a little condescending to be honest but you can switch some of it off! If you see big green instructional text and smiley faces on a Pentax mode dial it's entry level Green smiley face is for Idiot Mode...

I went to Scotland with both the K-5 and my K-5iis the iis has the edge and I upgraded from a K-7. But after working with both for a week I would not upgrade from the mk1 to the mk2 it is simply not enough of a jump. My iis does have the edge but if I were you I'd wait for the next model, it surely isn't far away now.
Hmm, I love my IIs in that, when I did my pixel peeping I found the D600 to be ever so slightly better in detail but mushy straight out of the camera, now sharpened it looks very good indeed, and cranking the monitor up past where it's fair on the IIs you can definitely tell. I printed off some 24"x16" Prints and invited over my mate who used to do all the printing at one of my local Jessops Stores before the crash, to view them. He dould not tell the difference! He was sure he'd be able to, having 25 Years of looking at prints but he could not, I pencil marked them on the back, and they got passed around the table so much during the evenings, totally Nerdy conversation, that I no longer knew which was which either and without the marks on the rear of the prints, I never would be able to! My K5 (classic?) was not to this level, so I deem my IIs, Good enough for me.
I'll keep it even when I finally, if ever own a K3...

Must admit the rumoured specifications of the new camera have got me interested though and if Ricoh do pull something out of the bag and we get a 24mp body with all singing dancing autofocus/points/tracking I can actually see me selling all my Canon gear, buying the new body and using the II as a second camera.

I do like my 7D and 400mmL 5.6 though ... absolutely killer combination for aircraft.
used to have that myself, it's great for jets, and I had the "old trombone" (100-400 IS, USM) on the other body for the Props. Worked a treat, happy days, haven't been to an Airshow for about four years now, miss it!
Maybe I'll have the money again someday...

Pentax really should have resurrected the FA 400 F5.6 instead of the Herschel Telescope thing that no one is going to buy...

I got my IIs for a bargain price but would have plumbed for the original II for the same reasons as you Mike, though I could not be happier with my IIs, it's a happy set of coincidental circumstances that got me there though.
I'll be jealous as hell, when you get your K3 as I'm skint until at least June next year, I'll catch up... Eventually...

I'm absolutely delighted with my IIs, it's a good deal sharper than the original. Wether it's the lack of. AA. Or the more accuratel focus, or both, I have no idea but the Raw files pop.

Some more conjecture but if it happens all good.

The specs leaked on Photorumors from Sep. 23 appear to be mostly correct: 24MP Sony sensor, new autofocus system with more AF points, no AA filter, some new RGB sensor for either metering or AF not sure which.

Some new tidbits for you to consider tonight:

-New flash system

-The AF sensors are *all* cross sensors

-Tracking AF ! !

-Some new in-camera functions not further specified

-The body is similar to the K5, but something about Ricoh doing something different with the display.

Well that this certainly sounds like Ricoh may indeed be quite serious about expanding the Pentax lineup. Hope the announcement comes beginning of October, not towards the end. There is talk it will be Oct. 8.

I also heard something very specific about FF for next year that I nearly couldn't believe and I'm trying to get confirmed. Will let you know if I do. Also something about pro-level support...wow! 2014 could be a very big year for the brand if this holds water.

PRO SUPPORT!

There's a point I'm surprised no-one has made (unless I've missed it in this somewhat lengthy thread). Pentax may not actually sell that many FF sensor cameras if they were to produce one, but it would have a very marked effect on the Pentax brand as a whole, which would likely induce many more customers to buy cameras lower down the range.

People like the association with ultimate quality, even if they don't actually want to fork out the money to buy the top-end product itself. At the moment, Pentax is not associated with the ultimate in photographic quality, because it does not have a real high-end option. If it did, all other products in the range would acquire a kind of reflected glory, and thus higher sales. Logically it makes no real sense, but that's consumerism for you.
Pentax have ultimate Quality, the 645D, a whole 4Mp more than any current 35mm Frame size DSLR...

I posted but you must have just beat me to the draw Epithet Man! Your post did not show up before mine a minute ago but I bow to your greater keyboard prowess...
