I would have upgraded my 55-300 if the new version came with the DC motor as well as WR (or even just the DC motor) but I won't upgrade for WR alone. The noisy focusing is my only real problem with the existing lens, which is an absolute gem, optically speaking. Lack of WR isn't such an issue.
Exactly my thoughts.
I suppose the HD cooating may offer a slight increase in image quality in difficult lighting, and would be a good alternative to heavy Lenses for a light long Landscapers Lens. Thinking specifically of me here, I could be tempted once the price settles down but if Tamron wake up and smell the coffee, I'd take their 70-300 USD in a heartbeat, thats a lovely Lens for any money and a fab price too...

Just trying to say I put a higher value on the in lens motor than the Wr but obviously both would be nice, living in cumbria gives you webbed feet!
At the end of the day you can pick up the Tammy for £279, can't see the Pentax dropping quite that far to be honest.
It probably costs more to put in the gaskets/seals than it does the motor I'd reckon, I'd imagine theres quite a few in there but I'd happily pay £500 and not £400 for A HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR DC or SDM...

Just so long as they had room for an electronic level that works this time round.

If it's as rubbish in the K-3 as it is in the K-5, you all better duck, since my toys will be emerging from my pram at warp factor 8.

How's the level in the K5-II by the way?
I think it's the same level but I think it's only accurate to one degree anyway which just happens to be exactly how much my handholding is out by almost every time, so I gave up looking at it! Must have a check to see if it's the same...

Same reason they changed the Grip Mike, Accessories! Surprised they never changed the battery as well to be honest...
Well I had wifi in my A77 and it used to drain the battery in an afternoon! I guess we must have moved on from that in the intervening couple of years but the shot capacity on the K3 is already lower than the K5 so maybe that's why? At the end of the day you have two slots (I'd still like an extra in the grip!) and you can choose whether to have wifi or not, better than the Nikon wifi solution of the USB widget, which gets snapped off, all my Nikon shooting (Ex:twisted mates keep on breaking them!

Dunno why they couldn't put a GPS chip in their either. Disappointed in that!
Also I suppose they already had the Astrotracer GPS and that'll be why we didn't get that, this time around either? At least with the FLU card there is no need to go out and buy a fancy remote???
And as Chris A says, maybe they just ran out of room? Compact body, there has to be a limit to just how much they've managed to shoe horn in there?

I think they have squeezed an awful lot in there as it is...

Personally I don't think there will be hardly any difference over the K-5/K-5II Iso wise (or DR) but you do have the extra MP for cropping harder (if needed).

Hmmm, not sure that makes a lot of sense now I read it again
Saw what you wrote knew what you meant, and I think you'll be right too Mike but the K3 is not all about whether it's better than the K5II as long as it's better than everything else.

It also brings an awful lot of new possibilities to the table with it's Flu Card (Can't you get a Jab for that?) new AF and I like the multi white balance readings and 86K metering too, once dialled in could be really good...

It's the high ISO performance that most interests me. If it's an improvement over the K5, I'll definitely be buying one. It looks like it's going to be the best APS-C camera on the market.
If we look at the D7100 (which seemingly uses the same sensor) it seems like the difference between it and the K-5II re dynamic range and high ISO performance is virtually indistinguishable. Given what Pentax did with the K-5 against the D7000 (again as near as dammit the same output) I would guess they will again be pretty evenly matched.

Personally I don't think there will be hardly any difference over the K-5/K-5II Iso wise (or DR) but you do have the extra MP for cropping harder (if needed).

Happy to be proved wrong though

I guess I'm saying that the negative bracket comment in that linked article doesn't seem justified? Maybe I'm missing something here, but I've heard only good things about the Pentax auto bracket controls. In fact some really love them for use with timelapse photography as all the bracketing can be automated. not sure what I'm missing here.

USB 3 would seem to be the fastest way to get photos off now, assuming you have a compatible USB 3 port on your computer.

I tend to agree on mirrorless compacts. That seems an oxymoron, given they're now a cellphone sized body with a full sized lens hanging off the front. I'm more inclined to prefer a bigger housing to hold onto. But, that's just me...
I do to but I like something of similar quality to a DSLR that does not have a fixed lens, I find fixed lens scompacts a little limiting, now the Ricoh Gr with it's adaptor and optical finder accessories is nearly there, I was just postulating something smallish that could use the Ltd's but with a bit more of a system to it than the K-O1.
People put the wierdest combo's on the Q...

This is all very well, but I haven't ever seen the point of switching from system to system when something new comes out. Next week it will be something else anyway.

It's probably very boring to some, but I use cameras to make images. Upgrading happens when needed because something breaks or because I get a sudden twitchy mouse finger on Amazon...

As for CSCs, there was one sat on my shelf a couple of days ago. Other marques are off topic, but suffice it to say that with lens it was only slightly less bulky than a K-50. It also didn't work. Dead as a dodo straight out of the box.
Switcwing bodies sounds fine in principle, but what about the lenses? You buy into a system as a whole, not because body X happens to be a cintilla better than body Y. I can't see Nikonians deserting in droves to Pentax.
I know what I see and what people tell me, and people using D300's are sick of waiting, nearly as sick of waiting as the Americans seem to be for the Pentax FF...

People switch for all sorts of reasons that others don't understand...

Anyway, who mentioned droves, I mentioned a few, I don't know droves of people, thank god, I'd probably end up with tired arms punching most of em!

To be fair, there's still the same argument (or comparisons to be made between images taken with the reduction on or off) .... it's just that now you only need to own one camera instead of two to be allowed to pass judgem.........

Nice one Nigel

I'm also interested in what adjectives will be used to describe the differences in image quality between the K-3 and K-5 variants and also between the K-3 in both modes.

I've heard both "huge difference" and "massive difference" by K-5IIs owners in the past when comparing to K-5/K-5II, so will we have to invent new words if the K-3 IQ improvements vastly exceed differences between II and IIs

Anyway I'm really looking to see what the high ISO performance of the K-3 is like in comparison to the K-5
Mooosive!
