Just a thought. My old K100D Super works just fine, with no strange focussing quirks. Maybe you guys should be looking on Ebay for one like mine, before shelling out big money for the "next best thing".

Still have K100DS (or rather, my son does and I rarely see it!) and agree that it is a superb camera. Also agree that it is unnecessary to keep moving up the ladder every time a new camera comes out (even though it does at least keep Pentax in business). However, there are advantages to some of the other bodies that may be important to some people.

For me, there are a number of reasons why it was worth buying into another body including:

Weather resistance (I don't live in Australia!)
Twin e-dial and less menu-driven operation
Speed of operation and ability to change key parameters quickly

I've got those now, so I agree with you to the extent that I have a camera that more than meets my needs - and when whatever replaces the K-7 comes out, I won't be queuing up to buy it: my camera is just as good as it was the day that I bought it.

The lens adjust feature is an example of where Pentax gives you extra value - a feature that professionals would expect on their cameras, but which is mostly absent from affordable enthusiast models. It should not be taken to imply that Pentax are aware that their camera bodies are somehow inaccurate. Some lenses are known to back or front focus, and being able to adjust for that is invaluable.

I think Matt is absolutely right about tolerances in his post above, but the original post implied that this was an issue with every lens tried on the body, which does rather imply that the tolerance issue may be with the camera in this instance rather than the lenses.

If your experience is that your camera is back or front focussing to a consistent and significant level with every lens you use, then as it is only 2 months old I would consider contacting your dealer and ask them to help you get it sorted out. Either see if they will provide a replacement body, or send it off for adjustment/repair. You could also take your lenses in and try them on another body to see if you get the same problem.

My recent experience of Pentax UK repair times is quite good - if they don't need parts from Japan, the turnaround seems to be pretty rapid.

Voigtlander Ultron 40/2 still available (c'mon, you know it makes sense!).

Pentax 16-45 now provisionally sold.

Quite a rarity now, these filters were designed to avoid ghosting effects between the filter and the front of the lens (eg when taking photos with lights in them), and are curved to match the lens element rather than flat.

I think I'm right in saying that they were originally designed to match the 50mm/1.4 screwthread lenses, so if you have one of those, this would be the perfect accompaniment to keep things as original as possible. And they were also supposed to work rather well.

This one comes in original Asahi Pentax box, inside which is a non original (Vivitar) plastic filter holder.

It's in very good shape. Here's a photo:

I'd be happy to post first class to the first person who is prepared to pay at least £10 to a deserving charity of their choice. If you are happy to donate more, that is more than fine by me.

Cheers,

Jon

The lens looks like it's off to Wales soon, but the ghostless filter wasn't required as part of the deal. So will start a new thread in case anyone is interested.

Nope - K-7 too. I know *isteve had this issue as we were chatting about it before he made the move to Nikon.

Can I suggest you do an experiment by turning off the shake reduction? I know of a number of people who have experienced problems when it is switched on, especially around shutter speed of around 1/125 sec, which you really wouldn't expect an issue....

... if your shots without SR are sharper than the ones with (and I'd aim for 1/125 at around f8 in decent light with a 35ish mm focal length), then it may be that the SR in your camera is at fault and may need to be looked at by Pentax.

Hi Shaun - I am currently selling 16-45 which I do not think is right for your needs (too slow and not enough reach), plus an old manual focus 50mm f1.4 SMC-M prime lens for £60 (see separate thread in classifieds). To be honest, I wouldn't go with that either unless you are well-used to manual exposure and manual focus - a lens with auto exposure ability would make life rather easier. So, SMC-A or SMC-FA (the latter would also give you auto focus).

Don't want to do myself out of a sale here, and it's a lens I would be reasonably comfortable to use in a wedding - but only because most of my kit is made up of lenses that are almost as old as I am and I've got used to them! Let me know if you are still interested anyway!

Cheers,

Jon
