Photos added - any takers at £70 Incl postage?

Having recently purchased a 28-105 here on the forum, I think it's time to let this lovely lens go.

It has a super reputation and fans often refer to it as a 'stack of primes'. Well, probably not quite, but it is very good. Having tried it on APSC and FF I think it shines more on the former (hardly a surprise) and edge performance requires a bit of stopping down on the latter. Built like a tank, this one is in excellent condition and comes with front and rear caps (front one is generic, not the Pentax original) plus an after market metal lens hood plus its own cap - which works very well on APSC but causes vignettes at wider angles on full frame.

Cosmetically, the lens is lovely - only signs of very careful use, no dents, dings or scratches and all the paintwork, markings and grips are in excellent condition. Optically all is as it should be - there is minor dust as you would expect but nothing to impact on image quality. No fungus. The aperture, focus and zoom rings are all working perfectly.

Glanced out of the window just now and saw a nice clear moon.... So thought I'd see what I could make of it with the previous generation non-PLM HD DA 55-300. Getting it to focus accurately required a bit of effort but we got there and, given the lens isn't really suitable for this kind of shot, I'm, quite impressed at what it could do. This has been cropped a lot so basically uploaded here at 100% pixel peeping size - not the most interesting image, but I think my relatively cheap telezoom did quite well with it!

I'm looking forward to using it and, after giving it some thought, am not as sniffy as I was about the relatively pedestrian aperture range and in particular what that means for control over depth of field.

I've never had a problem with the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 C on APSC - a workhorse lens for me on the K3iii. And when you do the maths, you have better control over depth of field at the same distances on full frame with the 28-105 f3.5-5.6. So other than impact on shutter speed or ISO, where the K-1 performs well anyway, there's not as much compromise involved as I liked to think.....

Hopefully one day I'll take a photo with it that's good enough to share....

Oh dear I've just raided MPB and bought their as-new FA31 Limited..... which means my perfect example of the HD FA 35/2 needs to find a new home. I have listed on EBay too but would be much happier to sell here if there are interested takers. Boxed, purchased only a few weeks ago from SRS, and complete with hood, caps and lens pouch - all as new.

Looking for £259 including UK postage - which is a cool £100 less than the price paid only a short while ago when I bought it from SRS....

Please help! I've also got an imminent K1ii to pay for!

I've been using largely mirrorless in recent years and had missed the more immersive experience of using a dSLR. So I took the K3iii with me to a theatre dress rehearsal in St Albans last week and was generally very pleased with how it all went.

Highlight metering is brilliant in these circumstances, not a single blown highlight in any of my images, generally low ISOs (I usually use TAv mode) and pictures which with ISO invariance can be post processed with minimal noise issues.

The AF is generally serviceable and I got many more hits than misses - but not really quite as good as mirrorless, and with the K3iii it really is quite difficult in dark conditions to see what it is focusing on, especially in AFC. You have to learn to trust it, and a lot of the time, it's fine. But you do need to use the joy stick to point things in the right direction - left to its own devices in full auto AF, the camera, well, mine doesn't always make the most obvious choice of what to focus on!

But what I'd really forgotten was battery life. The same battery had been in the camera for many days before I went to the theatre and several hundred shots seems to be no problem at all - you certainly don't need to carry a pocket full of spare batteries like you do with some mirrorless systems. And the K3iii battery life is meh compared to some other dSLRs!

It's nice to be using a dSLR again - I had to work a little bit harder, but I think sometimes the images end up being a little better as a result.

So to finish off, a couple of shots from the dress rehearsal of Elgar and Alice at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans - just down the road from SRS Microsystems people! And proof that Pentaxes can actually be used indoors, and for something other than outdoor/landscape work in inclement weather!
