Not bad for a lowly kit lens?

Glanced out of the window just now and saw a nice clear moon.... So thought I'd see what I could make of it with the previous generation non-PLM HD DA 55-300. Getting it to focus accurately required a bit of effort but we got there and, given the lens isn't really suitable for this kind of shot, I'm, quite impressed at what it could do. This has been cropped a lot so basically uploaded here at 100% pixel peeping size - not the most interesting image, but I think my relatively cheap telezoom did quite well with it!

It is a good lens and mine has provided several competition winners on a K5. I don't think you can complain about what you have there.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Not bad

Try using a Bahtinov Mask for focus. Use it on a bright star. Then point it at. and shoot the moon.
