Sad to see this failure on a camera that has fewer than 9000 shutter actuations. I imagine that older DSLRs (pre-K30, which I think was the first model to suffer this problem) which have perhaps failed for another reason will also have a white solenoid that they can donate so that another may live.

I believe my K3 is set to use the sRGB colour profile and all of these images are SOOC jpegs.

Cases can harbour fungus, they're a much better home for these microbes than cameras or lenses are on their own. Ideally store the cases separately but somewhere not humid and where light can get in and air can circulate.

Excellent shots...colourful and something we don't see much of on this site.

Only thing I have noticed...it may be me or my monitor...all the skies are full of digital artifacts running in bands. I've noticed this in lots of sky shots from many different contributors on all photo sites ..BUT only in the past few months...what is going on? Used to get the odd case but not as regular as now it seems.

Or is it just me?
I don't see them. Perhaps there's some kind of compression going on with the images on the connection you're using?

The Segovia balloon festival started in 2018 when it was relatively small. The following year it got bigger but it always runs from Friday to Sunday and I went on holiday on the Saturday so could only attend the Friday early morning flight, which was fantastic. I understand that the following day there were far more balloons. In 2020 it was cancelled, for obvious reasons, and this year it's back. Again, my bad luck had me go on holiday early on Saturday so I missed the busier days again, but I got there at 7am sharp on the Friday to see these glorious things take off in the gorgeous morning light.

I've still to go through and upload many of the pictures (and develop and scan the film ones) but I took the K 28mm f/2.0 along to see how it performed and I have to say I was struck by how well it did - absolutely nothing to envy over more modern lenses.

The DA 16-85mm remains the best overall lens for this type of event but I love to use a high quality manual lens and there hasn't been much more than the mundane (and my kids) to photograph for the last eighteen months so it seemed like a good opportunity to test it on something other than shallow DOF shots wide open.

the lens ranges of mirrorless offerings are still pretty meagre - tilt-shift anyone? High quality small lightweight primes (other than Leica M series)?
Well, they're expanding all the time. For high quality yet small and light you need look no further than the Fujifilm X system while both Sony and Sigma have recently brought out some slower (around f/2. primes which are small and light and I've read perform extremely well, branching away from their previous stance of all primes being massive, heavy and expensive.

Welcome to the forum, or at least, to posting on it. Hope your astro project goes well. I didn't know it rained that much in NZ but then it does look very green and that has to come from somewhere.

Nothing wrong with Chinon. I think I only own one, rebranded as a RevueFlex and with an M42 mount, it's a very nice camera. They went toward the cheaper end of the market later on but many are still kicking, certainly more than the MZ series with it's dodgy plastic cogs. Many of the later ones are lighter in build quality but better than Pentax in the sophistication of their functioning, especially the electronics.

Interesting items at good to very good prices but since Brexit has put the kybosh on my folks sending me stuff to Spain and Covid has put the kybosh on flying over to visit (and collect goodies), I have to say "no" to a lot of stuff I'd otherwise be very interested in.

So the recent trend in Pentax pricing is for APS-C gear to be significantly more expensive than the FF equivalents?

Philip
It's starting to look that way. Fujifilm have lead the way in producing top-notch lenses for APS-C and pricing them as top-notch, regardless of sensor size. Perhaps Pentax have seen that it's a valid option, though I have to say the Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 is significantly cheaper than the new Pentax and by all accounts is optically perfect in pretty much every way.
