Welcome to the Forum. Plenty of K20D users here, so hopefully plenty of help too!

As a quick tip, always best to upload a photo or two demonstrating the problem(complete with exif data) if you want help.

Hullo Dave, and welcome.

Despite the popularity of digital you'll find plenty of 'filmies' here.

Enjoy the forum, and if you can, share some of your photos.

You don't want a polariser on all the time. Some togs advocate use of a UV filter for lens protection.

Another K5. Prices are dropping and you have all the lenses.

I'd only consider another camera/system if you were thinking about moving away from Pentax in the longer term.

That said, when I had a similar situation (6 week trip to NZ) I bought an ultra-zoom bridge camera and left my Pentax at home. Gave me everything I wanted (except the Pentax IQ)but I traded that against convenience, weight and knowing I was going to be more in 'happy snappy' tourist mode than trying to make decent pictures.

Which lenses have you carried in the two outer compartments? (with or without hoods?)

What's the overall capacity like? ie what do you carry?

Whilst the old 'battery out, battery back in' trick seems to have worked for you, given the short time you've had your camera you might want to consider getting the supplier to swap it for another one.

That said, I've read a few reports of K5's freezing, 'normally' associated with intense processing, ie HDR, but in conjunction with a dodgy SD card.

To-days DSLR's are complex pieces of electronics, and stuff does happen.

It should work/focus fine on your K-r.

What have you compared it with? Could you post some sample shots?
