If not in warranty look around for a second hand replacement or consider a 16-45, 16-50, or 17-70 (assuming you want a kit lens 'upgrade').

Not sure if the lens itself can be readily dismantled.

I find it's not so much the scanner, (although clearly important for best quality), but the scanning software. I've abandoned a project to scan all my negs/slides largely because of the time I'm spending trying to get the results I want, and frankly I'm not looking for perfection, just something with reasonably realistic colours.

Perhaps one of the issues for me is that 'in the day' I was using photolabs that also provided no-name film, or branded film like Agfa, and I can't match the film against any of the Vuescan profiles.

Anyone suggest a solution other than trial and error?

I intend to purchase a "Pentax 100mm WR Macro D-FA Lens" in the near future, for my new Pentax K5 camera, but I need to raise some money first from selling some of my old equipment!

Amongst the many "steam" cameras/lenses I have to get rid of,I have some quality Pentax equipment, such as:- a Pentax SMC 1:5.6/400mm lens; a Pentax SMC Reflex Zoom 1:8~12 400-600mm; a Pentax LX Waist-Level Magn-Finder FE-1; all in excellent condition. I may even sell one of my Pentax LX cameras

Do you think I would get a fair price for any of them on a "trade in" deal that some of the suppliers advertise, or do you think it would be better to advertise them on this site and / or E-bay?
You do know your lenses will work with your K5?

I appreciate you're after raising funds, but....

Thanks. I can see a benefit for those 'grab shot' moments.

So if I understand this then, the Nikon captures images on a 'loop' from the moment it's switched on, and as long as it's switched on, and only stores the 'looped' images when you press the shutter (plus the shot you actualy wanted of course)?

Buy first, think later!

Try them.

Sell on what you don't decide to keep.

Maybe I'm missing something but the only artefact I can see in the first (f11) photo next to the cliff edge is a seagull of some sort! Sorry, it's too small to identify properly but probably a Herring Gull.

The 2nd f4 one looks to me to be suffering from a shallow depth of field. The posts at the back are out of focus but the nearer cliff face looks to me to be reasonably sharp. (Could be a bit of camera shake?) What was the intended point of focus or are you relying on the camera to decide for you? Could be the camera had a different idea to you.

The optimum regarding sharpness for most lenses is right in the middle of your two photos, usually around f8.

I cannot see anything odd about the colours though, what are you viewing the photos on? If the colour balance was off, the chalky cliff face wouldn't look white.

It's difficult to look at the pictures properly (fully) on the monitor though as I have to scroll around them as they are too big for viewing in Firefox! It's also difficult to to identify a problem seeing just a couple of photos. Everyone gets bad ones now and again, but if it is a consistent problem then maybe the lens or the camera has a focussing issue. Does it look soft in the viewfinder? Also is the lens set to auto focus or manual focus? Just a few pointers to get a bit more info for others to hopefully help solve it for you!

+1.

I downloaded both pictures and frankly can't see any of the issues as described.

Perhaps a better description of the 'artifact'?

I'm sure LensBaby http://www.lensbaby.com/#1 do something that offers some if not all of the tilt lens functionality.

But, to paraphrase a question raised earlier in this thread - why use hardware if software will do the job - I suppose it's for people like me who would rather get it right in-camera than spend time later on a computer. (Plus it's another lens :twisted

I don't have the 15, but if I were in your shoes I'd try to hire (SRS) or borrow one befoe letting my 12-24 go!
