It is silly but I would like to keep it Pentax and the WR would be nice in low light outdoors or when there is liquid flying about as toddlers and small children are wont to do.

I've discovered sourcing used equipment over here is not simple and postage costs tend to cancel out savings on cheaper things. It's not worth buying anything below a certain value, and SRS seem to be the only stockist I can find for anything Pentax related at a reasonable price and they will post to Hungary (already checked this before for something else!).

I was kind of surprised not to see it as a package option for the K3ii as I thought that was the underlying reason for it's introduction! I don't think there is anything else on offer with the form factor?

Though the 50-135mm doesn't suffer the shadow from the built in flash......

Has anyone seen/had a play with one of these yet? I know it's only a very basic/cheap bit of kit and not very interesting for most but I think a fill flash might be good for me as my 16-50mm is very fat and causes a shadow on the built in flash and the older flash gun I have is manual only (sort of) and HUGE.

Tilt is enough for me although I would like swivel for use in portrait but you can't have everything. Just want a lightish solution to keep ISO down for interior shots but won't be doing anything complex just a general fill to boost ambient light.

How do you feel it compares with the DA*16-50? Seems to be very good but is there enough difference to justify the relative costs?

I already have a K5 which is excellent just been unused for the last couple of months for several reasons, one of which has simply been during my recovery I have had to watch the weight of what I carry carefully. I think I could live with a smaller grip definatly with the primes, not so sure about the DA* lenses though. They are big old lumps..........

I have a dslr-like M4/3 which is the compact choice.............. I get along with it's "grip" fine but there is less likely o be so much weight hanging off it.

it's getting close to the point at which I got my K200. You could make an arguement it's worth it just for the sensor? Would be a compelling city camera paired with the DA 40mm or another of the smaller primes. I must not get myself tempted!!! I have some stuff to part exchange if I can get the time off to go back t the UK in a couple of weeks so might take a look.

From a few German suppliers the KS1 seems to be getting down to the £220 or so mark body only.....

So, is this now a liked camera?

I'd forgotten about this thread! The quote was for around HUF 40,000 to 60,000, need to get back in touch with them to confirm but I have to put it back now as I have to have a trip back to the UK this month. That's in the order of £100-140 or so. Will have to confirm obviously, they were waiting for the equipment to arrive so they could start conducting repairs. I think they are a new service partner for Pentax so we will see.

I'd like it back working and if the new replacement motors are sound so much the better.

Up until last year I was living and spent my teens not far from here! Making me a little homesick actually.......

The Emley Moor Mast in the distance there? Was an ever present in the Denby Dale/Emley/Skelmanthorpe area!

Most laptops are the same nowadays made from similar branded components
Nine out of the top ten selling laptops (2014 stats for selling laptops) use proprietary parts. Companies such as Dell/Alienware, HP, Lenovo, even Apple/Mac. Proprietary meaning, one cannot purchase these parts anyplace except for where one purchased the laptop>

But it gets worse... Typically in Apple/Mac releases quite a number of parts are simply not available (even) with six months of initial product release. Even desktop (all-in-one) Macs have a large number of parts which are not replaceable at all; once certain parts go on the device, it's simply beyond repair.

Also to be quite specific, there are only some six laptops names ever produced today that have user replaceable parts, in case of failure of wanting to upgrade
My 2008 Macbook just got a new SSD and RAM so that is user upgradeable. My 2012 MacBook Pro can have everything replaced with the right screwdriver and patience (which I don't have.......!). See, people want portable to actually mean portable and even my 13" Macbook is on the edge of acceptability for that hence the newer designs putting efficiency and compactness first it seems. I was recently looking for a new machine as a portable solution (before I just spent a lot less transforming my old one into something really fast and good!) this miniaturisation along with much more complex and difficult to work on designs seems to be the pattern for laptops, you are not going to be able to upgrade them yourselves easily. In the Mac world there are specialists that provide parts and from what I've read Apple still isn't quite as propriety yet as many fear. Apple are quite good at replacing and solving problems though. For any manufacturer though if certain parts fail that is a write off anyway? Most laptops aren't worth repairing really anyway. Every desktop I have ever had has melted within 2-3 years, the laptops have been much more reliable....

Since about 2000 since I went to Uni with my own machine I think I have upgraded parts maybe twice? Once the other week (and that was largely as I can't afford something new) and maybe about 9 or 10 years ago (and that was RAM into a desktop)? I think I'm fairly typical so user upgradability I think is not so important definately these days when I have an 8 year old Acer running WIndows 7 nicely and a 7 year old Macbook now running the latest OS faster than a Quad Core i7 only three years old. Anything fairly modern will run most things fine. If you're not a gamer or using really heavy professional programs I don't think you need half of what is on the spec sheets these days (then again what I think Apple get right is the overall experience of usage). I think gaming causes most of the spec angst that trickles down............... My experiences looking at some computer forums recently as well suggest that those who are shouting about their tinkering are really in a minority as I know no-one who gets that into a tizz over a few RAM chips....... I don't care about gaming so I'm fine!

You get what you pay for and I would go for a slightly older but originally more expensive computer over a budget box.
